Minnigaff is a veelage an ceevil pairish in the historical coonty o Kirkcoubrieshire in Dumfries an Gallowa, Scotland. Leid wis diskivert there in 1763 and wis mine't aboot twa mile fae the veelage until 1839.[1]
The name Minnigaff or Minigaff is o Breetonic oreegin.[2] The generic element is mönïδ, meann "a kenspeckle hill', while the speceefic is goβ, meanin "a blacksmith". (c.f. Welsh mynydd-gof).[2]
Minnigaff is the birthplace o Sir James Mirrlees (1936-2018), winner o the 1996 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.
