Ida-Viru Coonty (Estonie: Ida-Viru maakond), or Ida-Virumaa, is ane o 15 coonties o Estonie. It is the maist north-eastren pairt o the kintra. The coonty contains lairge deposits o ile shale - the main mineral mined in Estonie. As ile shale is uised in thermal pouer plants, the yird in Ida-Viru leeterally haulds the lairgest pouer capacity in Estonie. The caipital o the coonty is the toun o Jõhvi which is admeenistratively unitit wi the Jõhvi Parish. 168,656 fowk live in Ida-Viru Coonty – constitutin 12.6% o the total population in Estonie (as o Januar 2010).[1]
Durin the latter pairt o the period o Soviet rule o Estonie, Ida-Virumaa wis cried Kohtla-Järve destrict, an its admeenistrative caipital wis Kohtla-Järve.
The County Government (Estonie: Maavalitsus) is led bi a Governor (Estonie: maavanem), who is appointit bi the kintra's govrenment for a term o five years. Synce August 2004 the govrenor's position is held bi Ago Silde.
As o Januar 2010, the population o Ida-Virumaa is 168,656, which makes the seicont lairgest coonty in Estonie (efter Harjumaa, which includes Tallinn). 44.6% o the population are men an 55.4% weemen.[1]
Bi ethnic oreegin, 71.3% o population are Roushies, 19.7% are Estonies, 2.7% are Ukrainians, 2.7% are Belaroushies an 1.4% are Finns (as o 1 Januar 2009).[1]
The coonty is subdividit intae municipalities. Thare are 5 urban municipalities (Estonie: linnad - touns) an 15 landwart municipalities (Estonie: vallad - pairishes) in Ida-Viru Coonty. Thare are 217 veelages in Ida-Virumaa.
