Category for redirects following a split

List of ports in England and Wales was split into List of ports in England and List of ports in Wales. I've redirected the old title to Lists of ports#National and sub-national lists which serves as an index to both new lists, but I'm not sure what the best category for it is? ((R with history)) doesn't seem appropriate as all the history is now at the England list following a page move. Thryduulf (talk) Thryduulf (talk) 02:42, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

John Rhodes (baseball)

Hello: I'm not sure this is the correct place for this request, but I would like to know how to fix this problem:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:200_births

This currently show John Rhodes (baseball) as a redirect to the 200 births category (the article title is italicized); he is a modern baseball player born in the year 2000; how do I fix the redirect so that it goes to the appropriate birth year category (2000 births)? Thanks for any help you can provide. --FeanorStar7 (talk) 09:14, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @FeanorStar7: You can just change the relevant line of the redirect code to
[[Category:2000 births]]
Categorization of redirects as regards years of birth/death doesn't differ from categorization of articles, and does not require any of the redirect templates. Dsuke1998AEOS (talk) 11:59, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Dsuke1998AEOS, thanks very much. How do I actually make the change in the article itself?; it redirects to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_Orioles_minor_league_players#John_Rhodes
which is part of a listing of players. Thanks again. FeanorStar7 (talk) 12:08, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
When you enter "John Rhodes (baseball)" in the search box, you will be taken to the target article. Just click on the "(Redirected from John Rhodes (baseball)" message that pops up at the top of the article and make the changes I described above. Thanks very much. I just fixed it. FeanorStar7 (talk) 21:59, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

R from radio program?

We have ((R from television program)): why not ((R from radio program))? I wanted to categorise Fixing Britain with Louise Casey and struggled. There must be plenty of cases where a radio show is notable enough for a redirect to its host but not for an entire article. PamD 09:47, 5 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I don't see why not. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 16:37, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Who makes these decisions? Do I just go ahead and create it (by modelling it on the TV equivalent) and then add it to the template which has the index of Rcats, or is there a formal approval process? PamD 17:35, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't think there is anything more formal than asking for comments here. If there's been no objections after a few days (and I have none) then just go ahead and create it. Thryduulf (talk) 13:36, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
OK, I've WP:BOLDly had a go. I've created ((R from radio program)) and Category:Redirects from radio programs, added it to ((R template index)), and added it to one redirect, Fixing Britain with Louise Casey. I'd be delighted if someone with a bit more experience of creating Rcats would have a look and see if I've done everything right. PamD 16:04, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Categorization of multiple taxonomies

The "Categorization of multiple taxonomies" section seems like just a specific applied instance of the "Redirects having a target that is incompatible with the category" section above it. Should it be merged into that section? ((u|Sdkb))talk 20:53, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sdkb, It does look like it could be seen that way. Perhaps further clarification would be useful, or move the subsection on categorization of multiple taxonomies into the one on redirects having a target that is incompatible with the category. · · · Peter Southwood (talk): 08:49, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
