This course is concerned with methods for analyzing the economics, environmental and societal benefits of energy technologies. Topics include: optimization techniques, utility planning and finance, cost-benefit techniques, discounting for time and risk, econometric models, and input-output analysis. The role of government in determining energy costs supply and markets will be considered.
By completing this assignment, students will write and/or expand an article on a specific topic relating to the course. In doing so, students will create a better understanding of their chosen topic along with providing the Wikipedia community with and in-depth description of their topic.
Assignment timeline

- Annotated Bibliography for article due Friday, March 4th 2011.
Week 7
- Continue work on both Carbon and Wikipedia Project
Week 8
- Carbon Project Due

Week 9
- Outside of class:
- Write a 3–4 paragraph summary version of your article (with citations) in your Wikipedia sandbox (due by March 25)
- Begin working with Online Ambassador mentor to polish your short starter article and fix any major transgressions of Wikipedia norms.
- Continue research for major expansion of article.
Week 10
- Outside of class:
- Please read: Handout: Moving out of your sandbox and Did You Know Nomination
- Move your sandbox article into Wikipedia's main space (live article).
- Nominate your article for "Did You Know" status, and monitor the nomination for any issues identified by other editors.
- Begin expanding your article into a comprehensive treatment of the topic.
Week 11
- Out of class:
- Expand your article into an initial draft of a comprehensive treatment of the topic. Full draft of article on Wiki due by Friday, April 8.
Week 12
- FINAL VERSION OF ARTICLE DUE.
- Internet Relay Chat, chat room for talking to online ambassadors in "real time"
