Wikipedia Assignment
Vb. Article Talk Contribution
Due: Wednesday, March 6th, 5:00 PM
Assignment: Contribute to an Article Talk Page'
The assignment is to contribute to the Article Discussion Page (talk page) of any entries you plan to revise. For anyone creating a new page, you should contribute not to your new page talk page, but instead, to the talk page of a closely related topic, to which you can provide a link to your new page once it is created.
Carefully read the information on using talk pages at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Using_talk_pages and follow the instructions provided. Prior to contributing, be sure to read previous comments on the talk page and note any concerns about the page or recent edits. Talk pages are for discussing changes to the Wikipedia articles.
Your contribution should contain a substantial amount of information taken from your submitted proposal so that other Wikipedia editors will understand your aim for the page. Be sure to note that your proposed contribution is a part of a class assignment and add the course banner (instructions below) to the Talk page. You may also wish to note your proposed contribution on your Wikipedia user page. Keep in mind that other Wikipedia editors may access your user page to better understand your contributions. Other Wikipedia editors may also offer you suggestions.

This will result in a banner that will link the page to the course’s Wikipedia page. The banner will look like this:
This article is the subject of an educational assignment at Rice University supported by the Wikipedia Ambassador Program during the 2012 Q1 term. Further details are available on the course page. |
Once you submit your Article Talk contribution to Wikipedia, take a screenshot or screenshots that show your contributions. Be sure the screenshots contain a font size that is large and easy to read. The zoom feature on your computer and/or browser can solve this problem if the font is too small. Check your work by printing your contribution to make sure that the printed version is the equivalent size as the print in this handout. Screenshots with too small print will lose points.
Do not save the entire page as a pdf, especially if the Talk page is exceptionally long. The screenshots must include your contribution and your username. Submit these files to the relevant assignment tab on OWL-Space and for full credit save the file as follows: <LastName>ArticleDiscussion.pdf (or .jpg)
