English 9 students at Grafton High School edit, improve, and sometimes create Wikipedia pages on young adult (YA) novels or other bildungsroman under the guidance of Roseclearfield, who is in her fourth year running this project (previously located here).

This project was inspired by Duke University professor Cathy Davidson, who wrote about the success of the project for the Durham Herald-Sun.

Extra Credit

• Wikify: Create internal links to other Wikipedia pages. Also, create links from other Wikipedia pages (for instance, the author's page) to your novel. Read about what words to wikify.
• Article template: Check out this recommended novel template to see what your page is missing, especially regarding categories (at the bottom of the page).
• Infobox: If your article does not have one already, think about adding an infobox using ((Infobox book))
• Book cover image: This is especially difficult, since you need to find an image within the Wikipedia image use policy guidelines. If you have questions, consult the Wikipedia Missing Manual (at school) or seek some Chatroom help (below).

Basic Help

• Training: Feeling frustrated? Go through Wikipedia's Online training for students!
• Style guidelines: Use the Novel style guidelines as your go-to resource to help you write your article.
• Chatroom help: Go to this chatroom to get help from Wikipedia Ambassadors who are just waiting to help you. When you log in, you should type your Username under "Nickname."
• Good article examples: A listing of books that have "good" articles according to Wikipedia.
• Edit summary language: Fill in the Edit summary box using shorthand from this guide.
• Stub tag: If your page is a stub, add this tag to the bottom of the page: ((YA-novel-stub))
• Word count: Aim to make your plot summary less than 600 words and by no means longer than 1,000 words. | Count your words here.
• Wikiproject:Novels: A group of Wikipedia editors focused on writing and improving articles about novels. Lots of good resources on their main page, and links to their talk pages where assistance can be requested.
• WikiProject Children's literature: Another related wikiproject. Similar to the group just above, but with a narrowed focus of attention.
