This is a frustrating problem that has been going on for weeks. There are two SSP cases here and here dedicated to the problem, but, so far, no admin has come to help. Basically, there are multiple accounts, some registered and many unregistered IP addresses all beginning with 86.29 or 86.25. They have been making nonsensical, barely admissible edits to Talk:Iraq War. That's where the major problem has been. It's almost never something that leads to their complete blocking. They always make sure to stay just under the radar, but it disrupts the proceedings there nonetheless. Their trademark is the "British" (I'm assuming) way of insulting each other.[1] [2]
Seriously, unless they're a bunch of friends who log on and fling insults and garbage on the Iraq page, these users must be socks. Sorry if I sound really aggravated, but it's hard to hold a decent discussion with them around. It eventually got bad enough (with the unregistereds) that I had to get the talk page protected.[3] That calmed the silliness from the IP addresses, but the registered users continued. After I warned User:Freetown about editing my posts, User:Kerry Perry came in and responded.[4] How exactly did he know about that? Another time, I warned User:Atlanic wave2. for some vandalism and I got some insult flung at me by an unregistered user a few minutes later.[5] Where did he come from? Anyways, a couple of these users were apparently created at the same time. Short pat came in on July 26[6] and Kerry Perry apparently did too.[7] I doubt this is coincidence.
Also, look at Diesel Multiple Unit page history around 16 - 17 August.[8] Amazing coincidence that Pine oak and Freetown came to edit the same article? As for Commander EI Davis, he has a lot of 86.29 and 86.25 IP addresses on his talk page and was, amusingly, welcomed by Freetown when his account was created. So Freetown knew who this guy was and they both happened to edit the Iraq War together? As for Opal, he has some 86.29 IPs on his talk page as well as Bosnia's weird emoticon on his user page.[9] Seeing as Bosnia just created his account, it seems suspicious that he is adding the trademark trash to Iraq War[10]. For me, it seems a few too many coincidences to be just that. Please help me... VegitaU 04:37, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
I have been blocking all of these accounts for the past few days, finishing with all the accounts on this page tonight, as it is clear that they are connected in some way, and though some of them make constructive edits, they certainly do more harm than good. This is related to the case of User:Elspeth Monro and socks, which has been going on for a really long time. I fought those trolls a few months ago, but then lost track of them. If any non-admins see behavior like this, please let me know. A range block of those 86.2... IPs sounds like a good idea, but I don't know how to do it. Academic Challenger 04:44, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
