AlbertHerring[edit]

Final tally: (2/5/1); Ended 10:21, 17 March 2008 (UTC) - closed by -- Anonymous DissidentTalk per WP:SNOW.

AlbertHerring (talk · contribs) - Albert is a great contibutor to Wikipedia with over 11,000 edits (over 10,000 in mainspace). He has also created many French commune articles (as did he help their project). I know that he would never abuse any of the admin powers given to him, if this RfA is passed. Albert has helped me a lot, just as he has helped the WikiCommunity. Basketball110 01:16, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I accept the nomination. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 01:26, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm really not that good at speaking for myself, but I will say that I have enormous respect for this project, and would be deeply honored to help it grow and thrive in any way possible.

Questions for the candidate[edit]

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
A: Basically, whatever's needed, and whatever I'm requested to do. I do a lot of newpage patrol, so I'd likely be fielding at least some of the requests for speedy deletion that pop up now and again.
2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
A: A couple of things spring to mind. I wrote the article for Kuroda Seiki from scratch, and it hasn't changed that much (last I checked, anyhow) from my original plan. I've also done a couple of music-related things of which I'm quite proud: both Merry Mount and New York Philharmonic concert of April 6, 1962 cover hugely (in my opinion, anyhow) important topics which have hitherto received scant coverage online; I think the Wikipedia article on that concert is the first fairly in-depth article about it I've found online. I've provided a fairly good-sized number of articles for the Did You Know? section of the front page. I've also bumped a number of geo-stub categories up to the point where they've been deupmerged, and I did a lot of work getting coverage for all the French commmunes that I could.
In other words, a lot of drudgery (if you will) and a little in-depth stuff.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
A: Not a whole lot - I try to stay out of controversies as much as possible. All I've done really is try to keep the Governors Island article from getting too politicized and biased.

Optional questions from Tiptoety talk

4. When should you use a cool down block and why?
A:
5. What is the difference between a block and a ban?
A:
6. What do you think about WP:IAR and when are you willing to use it? When are you not (if any)?
A:

Discussion[edit]

Support[edit]
  1. Support I would like to see a little more Wikispace contributions, but everything else I saw looked good. Maximillion Pegasus (talk) 01:40, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support as nom (shouldn't I be first to support?). Basketball110 Go Longhorns! 01:40, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You will have to be faster next time :) Maximillion Pegasus (talk) 01:42, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    <sigh> Good point </sigh>. :) Basketball110 Go Longhorns! 01:46, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose[edit]
  1. Oppose - I essentially knew how I was going to !vote after reading the first line of the nomination, and it was reaffirmed after looking at the count and user contributions. Complete lack of Wiki-project space contributions. Sorry, fails my criteria for experience and balance. Cheers and good luck though. Wisdom89 (T / C) 02:03, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not going to say that you are wrong, but I would like to add a comment: while Albert was creating articles, he requested that some of those Wikispace edits be taken place, usually for French communes. Basketball110 Go Longhorns! 02:33, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose - Proportionately miniscule use of talkspaces and not nearly enough experience with the administrative end of Wikipedia. I also worry that the article he points to having written "from scratch" is completely without references and citations. Just doesn't seem to know enough in way of policy. Adam McCormick (talk) 03:07, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose per the above comments. --Siva1979Talk to me 05:27, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  4. bOppose - his only explicit intention of his RfA is speedy deletions. Looking at his deleted contribs, I don't think he has enough experience in this field. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 07:05, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Weak Oppose For substantially the same reasons as Od Mishehu. Your Q1 indicates that C:CSD is where you would like to use admin tools, but you have almost no experience there. (As a note - admins aren't "requested" to work anywhere - they work where they feel they can help best). Weak oppose as there's lots to like here as well. Neutral[edit]
  1. Neutral. I'd support in a heartbeat if you had two or three times as much experience in the Wikipedia namespace. I'm a huge supporter of the mainspace, normally wanting to see at least 1000 edits there to !vote support, and you have 10 times that amount. You got over 5000 edits last month (were you bedridden all month long or something?), which shows a definite desier to help the project out. Plus, your answer to Q1 leave something to be desired.
