• Licensing of the Press Information Bureau of the Government of India authorizes reproduction without permission, but requires that “the material must be reproduced accurately”. Files uploaded to Wikipedia must be licensed for modification. Undoubtedly, these images were uploaded in good faith, but I do not believe that this licensing is compatible with our requirements. Several of them have been modified already: File:MamataBanerjeePBI-5-cropped.jpg, File:MamataBanerjeePBI-2-cropped.jpg and File:VirbhadraSingh-cropped.jpg are crops. (A contributor at ANI raised concerns that these might be third-party images hosted by the PIB, in which case they are not licensed by the PIB at all, but it is my feeling that this is immaterial, given the innate license incompatibility.) The images I uploaded are of Cabinet Ministers, the highest rank of a minister in India. They are in cream of all politicians and I believe they do deserve a photo on Wikipedia. If derivations are not allowed I believe, only 3 images should be deleted, not all. I understand that these are important people, and certainly they do deserve a photo on Wikipedia. Unfortunately, that's not really the deciding factor in determining if content is free for our use. What the license says, specifically, is "The material must be reproduced accurately and not used in a derogatory manner or in a misleading context." I came here to see why the pictures had been deleted. I agree with user:Moonriddengirl assessment - the license being offered by the Indian government is not compatible with Wikipedia's requirements. In particular, the Indian governments' insistence that the pictures never be used for anything which could be considered derogatory is incongruent with Wikipedia ideas.
