Portal:Soft Rock[edit]

Abandoned micro-portal on a narrow topic.

Created[1] on 1 February 2009‎ by Peter.shaman (talk · contribs). The lead of WP:POG has said since late 2006 "Do not create a portal if you do not intend to assist in its regular maintenance", but that has not happened here: Peter.shaman's last portsalspace edit was on the day this portal was created.[2]

The list of sub-pages at Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Soft rock shows only three selected articles, all created on 1 February 2009‎ by Peter.shaman. Portal:Soft Rock/Selected articles/1 had a topic chnage in 2010[3], but that's it. There are also 9 Selected picture pages, again all created on that first day.

Per WP:PORTAL, "Portals serve as enhanced 'Main Pages' for specific broad subjects". But this is micro-portals is not even an enhancement of the weak head article Soft rock.

WP:POG requires that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". This one clearly has not attracted mainatiners, and it doesn't look to me like a broad topic: it's basically a popular 1970s sub-genre, which evolved into other forms by the 1980s.

So I propose that this portal and its sub-pages be deleted per WP:TNT, without prejudice to recreating a curated portal in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time ... but given the narrowness of the topic, I would not oppose outright deletion. Delete - Specific genres of contemporary music appear not to draw large numbers of readers and portal maintainers. In any case, this portal has only 7 daily pageviews, as opposed to a more respectable 486 pageviews for the article. Robert McClenon (talk) 03:42, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
