Portal:Explosives[edit]

12-year-old abandoned mini-portal. No updates, no maintenance, almost no readers, just a set of a dozen ten-year-old content forks. Known as Portal:Pyrotechnics until it was renamed[1] in May 2019.

Portal created in April 2007‎ by Sam 1123 (talk · contribs), who last edited in 2011. The lead of WP:POG says "Portals which require manual updating are at a greater risk of nomination for deletion if they are not kept up to date. Do not expect other editors to maintain a portal you create" ... and this one has not been maintained. Sam's last edit to this portal was on 22 April 2007[2], only 19 days after it was created.

Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Explosives shows a modest list of sub-pages:

WP:POG requires that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". But in practice, this portal has not attracted maintainers, and it has also been shunned by readers: in Jan–Feb 2019, under its then title Portal:Pyrotechnics the portal got only 10 page views per day, well below even the abysmal median daily pageview count for all portals of 16 per day. Meanwhile the head article Explosive got 628 daily views and Pyrotechnics got 259 views per day. (BTW, pageviews after the rename to "Explosives" were even lower. In June 2019, the portal got only 2 pageviews per day).

Readers don't read this portal, and editors don't maintain it. Time to just delete it. BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:45, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete as per analysis by BHG, with traditional explosives. Silver bullets or weapons of mass destruction will be excessive. As an illustration of the neglect of this portal and of portals in general, I note that the portal includes a table listing articles on Category:Explosives, including 2 Featured Articles, 4 Good Articles, 16 Class B articles, and 60 Class C articles; but the portal only has 12 articles that have been partially copied, not even 22. In other words, the portal hasn't been maintained, and that is one of the provisions of the portal guideline.

The related portals are Portal:Chemistry, and Portal:Science, which is a main-page portal.
