Wiki Loves Monuments Yosemite Valley[edit]

Yosemite photo weekend

As part of Wiki Loves Monuments, I'm organizing a photo weekend in Yosemite National Park. The Yosemite Valley itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as are a number of individual sites, like the Ahwahnee Hotel, Camp 4, and the Camp Curry Historic District, to name a few. While it is a bit of a drive from the Valley, Tuolumne Meadows is listed on the NRHP, including several specific sites within the meadow. El Portal, California also has a bunch of NRHP-listed sites, so the weekend could hold a lot in store for us.

Itinerary

I plan to start photographing the Valley on Saturday by foot, though I will have a vehicle in case folks want to drive to other sites outside the Valley, like Tuolumne or El Portal. Sunday can be more of the same. Let's leave it rather wide-open and up to the tastes of those who show up.

Lodging

Depending on your style, there are lots of lodging options in the Valley, though they can book up, even this late in September. Highly recommend you make reservations if they are allowed wherever you might be staying. If you're thinking to stay at Camp 4, it is first come, first served, starting early each morning and booking up pretty quickly.

Gear

I would definitely recommend bringing your camera with extra batteries, a tripod (the stars at night are beautiful and I plan to do some night shooting), sunscreen and whatever else makes you comfortable when camping/being in the outdoors. There are lots of amenities in the Valley, including a market and good pizza, so if Clif Bars and Shot Roks are not your idea of food, there are options.
