This lithograph is clearly not the uploader's own work, but that of artist Philip Pearlstein (1924-2022). According to this listing it was published by Landfall Press, Chicago in 1981, so there is a chance that it fell into the public domain if it was published without a copyright notice and not subsequently registered. I had brought this up at the MCQ noticeboard for advice, in case anyone knew more, but to no avail. Felix QW (talk) 19:35, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Delete The only "work" they did was upload the image and then misrepresent themselves, it should be speedily deleted, and if someone wants to upload it again later they can provide accurate information. I don't see why we should be a free copyright research organization for every person uploading media they found on the Internet. It's my understanding "All works created after January 1, 1978 are automatically protected by copyright" regardless of a copyright notice. However, the copyright on the original might predate 1978. If the original is still in copyright, the print will also be in copyright, regardless of a copyright notice (the print was made after 1978). If the original is no longer in copyright, the print is also no longer in copyright (I think not positive). As you can see this is complicated. -- GreenC 20:04, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Delete: I concur with @GreenC that the image in question should be deleted, as the copyright status is dubious at best, and something I also agree that the uploader should have researched beforehand. As to whether or not this image meets any of the criteria for WP:SPEEDY, however, I can't say at this point in time. Conversely though, if at any point in this discussion the copyright status is confirmed with any real measure of certainty, we could be looking at a completely different outcome. -- Fhsig13 (talk) 01:00, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
