The file shows the instant of Charlottesville car attack. However, there is already another file at File:2017 Charlottesville, Virginia car attack photograph.jpg, in which it won the Pulitzer Prize. As a result, given that there is a better fair-use image, the file nominated violates WP:NFCC#3b, and should be deleted. 廣九直通車 (talk) 03:13, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There is a file on seemingly the same subject at commons:File:Armando Calvo.jpg which is freely licenced. Only question is whether the Commons file's licence is legit, but if it is the local file can be deleted per WP:NFCC#1 Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 13:07, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The way I understand it, if the anonymous author died before 7 December 1987, then the Spanish copyright to the Commons file expires 80 years after the death of the author. If the anonymous photographer was still living on that date, then the Spanish copyright seems to expire 70 years after publication of the photo. For a photograph published in 1944, there's a fair possibility that the photographer died before 1987. In either case, the Commons file is unfree in the United States as it was first published less than 95 years ago. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:56, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Map of selected castles of Scotland.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by QuakerIlK (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This map was uploaded with no licensing information but did include a link to the source site's terms and conditions. The site allows for modification (derivate works), is free for any use including commercial, and requires attribution. These are all acceptably free conditions. However, there is a restriction that a website or book or whatever publication is restricted to a maximum of 10 maps which doesn't appear to be sufficiently free for Wikipedia. Whpq (talk) 23:50, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I did not initially notice that particular stipulation "maximum of 10 maps". I just e-mailed the webmaster of the site, thoroughly explaining the situation of the usage, asking for permission. I just did this a few minutes ago, so of course I don't have an answer yet. Additionally, a bot-generated message appeared on my talk page stating that the copyright status was not articulated. I would have tried to address that when I uploaded the image, but I don't recall there having been a parameter soliciting that information. When/if I get that information, where/how, exactly, should I add it? Please help. Thank you.

Wikipedia will accept content licensed under any of license listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags/Free licenses. Currently, there is no licensed specified and and the terms and conditions don't appear to match with any of the acceptable licenses. The best method for obtaining permission is to follow the steps at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. -- Whpq (talk) 12:24, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I did get permission from the administrator of the website from which I got the original file, but after checking more thoroughly, I understand that there were more technicalities, so rather than be subjected to those, I created a totally new map, essentially from scratch. I created it from a site that has released it totally for free under Creative Commons O. All of the pertinent documentation/licensing is on the file information page, itself. Here is the file: File:map of selected castles in Scotland.png I don't know how to delete the old one. I'm not sure I have the authority to do so as I have no moderator/administrator status. It will automatically delete after another few days, regardless. This was a learning experience. QuakerIlK (talk) 08:41, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
