Unencyclopaedic. Per WP:RS/N there is no reason to believe that this file represents the historical individual it claims to represent due to the source from which the file was obtained. Fifelfoo (talk) 01:23, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, maybe you should make a wee bit of effort in finding information on a subject instead of coming off like a know-it-all. Here is another place with the same photograph which states it is Martin Sommer; it is from Dr. John M. Steiner, senior scholar-in-residence at Sonoma State University and founding director of the Holocaust Studies Center.[1] Here is another one from the official museum at Buchenwald[2] - that's in Germany in case you didn't know. I believe a college professor and the official state museum at Buchenwald have more credibility than you Mr. Fifelfoo.7mike5000 (talk) 16:48, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So remove this version sourced from a conspiracy theorist site, and insert a copyright okay version sourced from an appropriate site. There's no reason to believe that any content sourced from "scrapbookpages.com" is in any way legitimate. Unlike the Buchemwald museum, "scrapbookpages.com" has no credibility in the maintenance or correct display of historical photographs. WP:RS applies here, and your personal beliefs do not trump policy. The version displayed at the moment was neither sourced from http://www.buchenwald-videoprojekt.de/ nor from the Special Collections of the Salazar Library of Sonoma State University; but from an open blog run by a historical revisionist. I highly doubt the Star of Life is cc-licensed. Might qualify for fair use or else. I'm not familiar enough with enwiki guidelines to judge on that. abf /talk to me/ 14:52, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A few of points on this one. First of all, the Rod of Asceplius at the centre is public domain as it is an ancient symbol, and the particular version used is licence free. That just leaves the star bit, and that "consists of simple geometric shapes and/or text. It does not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection, and is therefore in the public domain", to quote the template and that means it can be used.
Secondly, the article leads me to believe that the logo trademark expired in 1997, and not renewed, instead 'gifted' to the national register of EMTs in the US, which then allows public use. It is in such widespread public domain use (featuring in multiple licence free clip art collections for instance), and indeed is written in to statute or regulations in various parts of the globe (including in the EU, far from the origins of the mark, where the SoL is mandatory on ambulances in order to comply with CEN regulation), that it would no longer seem to have a bona fide owner, and that it seems unlikely that any claim to ownership of the trademark could now be successful.
Lastly, as the various versions of the Star of Life we have on wiki at the moment state, (like one), it was originally created by an employee of the US government in the course of their duties, and is therefore public domain. Take your pick of reason, but this strongly seems to be public domain! OwainDavies (about)(talk) edited at 21:01, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The images discussed at WP:MCQ are used in a completely different article, and most of them appear to be free. Non-free images have to be important for the article (see WP:NFCC#8). A logo makes sense in the main article about the competition, but this image is only used in an article about the results, where it adds no information. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:31, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
