Westarctica is a much larger nation than Molossia, with more than 620,000 square miles in Antarctica to its name. None of the nation's 300 citizens live on the frozen land. No one does. McHenry, also a recruiting coordinator in a Los Angeles media company, said he was 'really inspired' when he found out there was a piece of Antarctica that had never been claimed. But Westarctica is not just an empty country. It's also a nonprofit, advocating for the protection of native penguins and researching how climate change is impacting Antarctica's ice sheet. ... Grand Duchy of Westarctica. One of the world's largest micronations, it encompasses 620,000 square miles of the Antarctic, but nobody actually lives there. It was founded in 2001 by His Royal Highness Grand Duke Travis McHenry after he learned no other nation had laid claim to the area. McHenry says he would like to eventually make Westarctica a real country. If he does, he jokes that he'll probably promote himself from grand duke to king. --Vyacheslav84 (talk) 04:58, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Endorse- this lengthy shopping list of alleged sources was presented already at the AfD, and not found to be sufficient for an article. Has anything changed since July? It doesn't seem so. Reyk YO! 12:42, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Endorse, a reasonable reading of the AfD by the closer. Sources aren't horrible and I'd probably have !voted to keep, but both the discussion and the close seem reasonable. I have created it as a redirect to Travis McHenry as I can see no reason that's not appropriate. Hobit (talk) 17:15, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Available sources are sufficient for a separate article --Vyacheslav84 (talk) 05:09, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Endorse this isn't supposed to be a second AfD, this process is for determining whether the closure of the AfD is correct or whether any circumstances have changed which mean the issue should be reconsidered. There isn't anything new here (the above sources were presented in the AfD) and the AfD closure looks reasonable. The OP could certainly add some content about the micronation to Travis McHenry. - Endorse, nothing material has changed. Was a non-notable micronation then, is a non-notable micronation now. Nominator is advised not to WP:BLUDGEON the process. Stifle (talk) 12:13, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Endorse. I don't see how the AfD could have been closed any other way. This DRV should probably be speedy closed as not meeting WP:DRVPURPOSE. I see that Hobit has recreated this as a redirect; that seems perfecty reasonable. However, the (snort) official portrait at Travis McHenry looks like a copyvio. I've nominated it for deletion.
I may end up nominating Travis McHenry as well, but haven't done enough research yet to decide. See also WP:Articles for deletion/Travis McHenry. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:53, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
