Nominator's rationale: Following this merger discussion, this category is pretty much redundant to Category:Alliance of American Football teams. This football league only had one season, and all 8 teams competed in it (WP:OVERLAPCAT). BLAIXX 22:14, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: This category seems oddly specific and not likely to be defining for many if any of the people for whom it may describe. Jweiss11 (talk) 02:38, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Aroup Chatterjee is the only person for whom it is defining (as writing a book about Mother Teresa is the only thing he is notable for), but that is too little to keep the category. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:08, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • But Edamaruku and Ali have produced media critical of Mother Teresa, and Hutchens wrote both a book and helped produce a documentary. There are plenty of other categories were it is not the central deffining theme of many articles yet importance enough to be kept. Inter&anthro (talk) 01:51, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please nominate them too. Many articles, especially biographies, suffer from overcategorization, this is low hanging fruit to reduce it. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:32, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: per a host of reasons, namely WP:SYNT, WP:NONDEF, and WP:TRIVIALCAT among others. Categorizing biographies by ethnicity and religion is is generally discouraged upon unless there is good proof that it is relevant, which in these cases it is not. Unlike for example the African-American population, which have historic Islamic and Christian organizations associated primarily with that race (see Nation of Islam, Black church, etc.) no such organizations exist for White American and Asian American commuinities that distinguish on race. This explains why categories such as Category:African-American Muslims, Category:African-American Christians, Category:African-American people by religion etc. are appropriate but these are not. More so very few if any of these articles is there any mention of race and religion at the same time, hence the WP:SYNT and WP:NONDEF arguments. • Ok, so this category can be deleted rather than merged. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:35, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Malaysian Chinese Muslims

The result of the discussion was: merge. MER-C 17:44, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: to start off Category:Malaysian Chinese Muslims was already nominated at a CFD 4 years ago here, where there was a concencus to delete and upmerge. Not that much has changed since to change that concencus. The rational is pretty much similar to the CFD above, so I'll try to keep it brief. For the two Chinese categories, while it is true most Muslims in Malaysia and Singapore are not Chinese, there is very little to no discussion of this in the article that seems to warrent this category (see above at CFD for Category:White American Muslims). The two Indian categories are more straight forward: there is no mention that Fazrul Nawaz is of Indian descent, and Mokhzani Mahathir is only of very distant Indian descent, WP:NONDEF applies to both. • Comment from my understanding articles were moved to the X Chinese Muslim categoires due to confusion over the Hui ethnicity. I am tagging the participants in that discussion @Robertsky: @SpinnerLaserz:. I would also like to clarify that the first two categories' articles are all from what I can tell already in the more general Muslim category, making a merge unneeded and hence why they are nominated for deletion not merging. Inter&anthro (talk) 20:36, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Thanks for the ping. Beyond the discussion on Hui ethnicity categories previously held, I have no constructive feedback for this CfD on the categories here as my focus on Wikipedia is currently still very much on content, references and anti-vandalism rather than categorisation. Apologies. robertsky (talk) 20:45, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Comment I think its time we merge these into these categories, same with the Muslims in America to make it more diverse as soon as possible. I was thinking requesting to merge into a more suitable category because we don't have organizations dedicated to them yet and I don't think they are suitable at that moment just yet because any race can be either, Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, etc. So I think that categorization by race is not suitable. As someone who has a religious, I think that religion not the same as race (I met someone who is a Asian but practices Judaism and she told me that anyone of any race can practice Judaism). I suggest a total merge. SpinnerLaserz (talk) 20:47, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
