Nathaniel Hooke (Jacobite) says that 'The next year he became a Brigadier-General of the French Army (3 March 1708) and was created an Irish Baron ...[1]'. Anne Oglethorpe says that 'She was made Countess of Oglethorpe by James III.[2]' Duke of Mar says that 'The Jacobite title of Duke of Mar was conferred on John Erskine, ... with the same remainder as his Earldom, i.e. to heirs-general ... The other titles, such as they are, remain extant, although they are not recognised by the British or any other government and have not been claimed or used by their holders since the eighteenth century.' It is on this basis that the present Countess of Mar is categorised as a Jacobite peeress.
I am not sure of the relevance of the fact that 'We do not categorise dukes also as barons, because they hold a subsidiary title of baron'. The Countess of Mar is categorised as the holder of a Jacobite dukedom because a dukedom outranks an earldom. I suggest that 'probably ending in about the 1780s' is arbitrary, and that we should follow the authoritative work, Ruvigny's Jacobite Peerage. That work records John Francis Goodeve Erskine (1836–1930) as 29th Earl of Mar and 7th Duke of Mar.Alekksandr (talk) 19:57, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at Jacobite Peerage, I make it 17 dukedoms, 13 marquessates, 39 earldoms, 32 viscountcies and about 60 baronies and lordships of Parliament (assuming that the list on that page is complete). New rationale: The way I see it, these two categories serve the same goal, as indicated by some subcategories which they both share. I deem "Theatrical music genre" to be more precise because the music accompanies and accentuates an action, be it that this action is taking place on stage, on TV, in film or in video games. Nominator's rationale: There seems to be no good reason for two categories. Some schools in Nepal are called high schools and some are called by other names.
