Gold Coast Suns[edit]

Hi Linmus,

Thank you for your article Gold Coast sports curse. I am a close AFL follower and I have kept track of the Gold Coast Suns since they entered the AFL at the start of 2011. There have been some hard times for the club but I have noticed that they have improved on and off field and that they are now in a strong position to challenge for finals in 2015.

Just a few points/questions:

Do you know any player who has ever kicked double-figure goals against the Suns? To date I don't think there has been.
About the 2009 stadium demolition, you forgot to mention that after the redeveloped ground opened in May 2011, it took the club over 14 months to win a home game there. I have added that point to the article.
I included links to Gary Ablett Jr. and the Brownlow Medal.
As far as I know the Suns have not been involved in a major on-or-off field scandal as far as player misbehaviour/violence, issues with alcohol and/or performances are concerned. Compare this to recent fellow AFL entrant GWS which had a player involved in an alcohol scandal and suspended for five weeks midway through last season. They have also suffered at least two 100+ point losses each season since they entered the league in 2012 and have won two wooden spoons (one more than the Suns) but like the Suns I also expect the Giants to improve in 2015.
You could have also mentioned that the Suns defeated teams such as Geelong and Collingwood in 2014 (and defeated Essendon in a pre-season match in 2014). The Suns also won the first edition of the intrastate derby (the QClash) in 2011.
