The Seven Spirits of God

The Seven Spirits of God are first mentioned by name in the Bible in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 3:1, 4:5, 5:6), however, They appear in symbolic form throughout the entire Bible. There are about thirty symbols of the Seven Spirits of God, including: the seven days of creation (Genesis 1:3-2:3), the rainbow (Genesis 9:13-16; Ezekiel 1:28; Revelation 4:3), seven of the ten commandments given to Moses (Exodus 20:7,12-17), the Menorah (a seven branched lamp that was kept in the Tabernacle, Exodus 25:31-40), the seven major feasts of Israel (Exodus 12:1-14, 23:16; Leviticus 16:1-34, 23:6-8, 23:23-25, 23:33-36; Deuteronomy 16:9-10), the seven eyes on the rock (Zechariah 3:9), and the seven horns and seven eyes on the Lamb which represents Jesus Christ (Revelation 5:6), among others.

The names of the Seven Spirits are: the Spirit of Life (Romans 8:2) the Spirit of Truth (John 15:26) the Spirit of Wisdom (Ephesians 1:17) the Spirit of Holiness (Romans 1:4) the Spirit of Love (1 John 4:8) the Spirit of Faith (2 Corinthians 4:13), and the Spirit of Prophecy (Revelations 19:10).

Together, these Seven Spirits of God comprise the nature of God Himself. Other Spirits mentioned in Scripture include the Spirit of Glory (1 Peter 4:14), which appears to represent the Seven Spirits of God collectively, and a series of titles for the Holy Spirit, including the Spirit of Grace (Hebrews 10:29), the Spirit of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2), and the Spirit of Counsel (Isaiah 11:2).

Each member of the Trinity fully posses and is influenced by each of the Seven Spirits of God simultaneously. However, each member of the Trinity has a particular relationship to those Spirits. Since God the Father is called the “Father of Lights,” and since light (fire) and the rainbow are symbols of the Seven Spirits of God, we can conclude that the Father is the originator of the Seven Spirits of God that comprise His nature.

As God Himself, Jesus Christ, the “Son of God,” fully possessed the Seven Spirits of God throughout eternity. However, when He came to earth to live as a man, He lived exclusively as a man because He emptied Himself of His Deity in order to accomplish His work in salvation. As a man, Jesus had fellowship with the Father through the Holy Spirit, even as we do, and He had access to the Seven Spirits of God through the Holy Spirit, as we do. However, throughout His entire life as a man, Jesus refrained from exercising His rights as God. Therefore, Jesus Christ was fully God and fully man simultaneously, and completely qualified to become the Redeemer of all who receive Him as both Savior and Lord. As the "Head of the Church" and the "Heir" of all that the Father possesses, Jesus is the One Who bestows access to the Seven Spirits of God through the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit has complete access to the Father, Jesus, the Seven Spirits of God, and to man simultaneously. Those who are in Christ Jesus, through their acceptance of salvation, have access to God the Father in the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ His Son. The Holy Spirit also enables Believers to live godly and powerful lives in Christ, and brings the Seven Spirits of God to those in the Church who are able to receive Them, and become empowered to complete the work of Christ on the earth.

Other views of the Seven Spirits of God

There are, however other interpretations of the Seven Spirits of God that have been proposed. For example, Brother Tommie has proposed that "In reality there is only one Spirit," and that the Seven Spirits of God merely represents the ministry of the Holy Spirit to the seven continents of the earth. The various names for the Seven Spirits of God, according to this author, Brother Tommie, the Spokesman for The Christian Crusade for the Salvation of America and the nation of Israel, merely represents the various ministries of the Holy Spirit.

Others, such as www.gotquestions.org simply add to the confusion by supplying additional possibilities such as seen angelic beings, in addition to merely representing a variety of names for the Hoy Spirit. In fact, the majority of authors writing on this subject consider the Seven Spirits of God as merely alternate names for the Holy Spirit and His ministries. Obviously, the subject of the Seven Spirits of God hasn't been seriously investigated by the Church, but even though the Seven Spirits of God have largely been ignored by the Church, They could be a source of great power to the Church. Not only do the Seven Spirits of God form the nature of God Himself, They also empower those who are able to access Them through the Holy Spirit to complete the work of Christ, in the world, through the Church.

Admittedly, I am a new author to wikipedia.org, and am not used to your ways of handling edits and comments.

I hope you will consider the changes to this article as proving that there is an general dearth of information on this subject since the majority of authors either assign the Seven Spirits of God to alternate names of the Holy Spirit Himself, or as names for the various ministries off the Holy Spirit.

Since, as far as I can tell, I am the only author who has considered the characteristics, nature, work, and symbols of the Seven Spirits of God throughout the entire Bible. Needless to say, I am forced to use my own book as the main source for this article since most treatise on this subject serve only to discredit the existence of the Seven Spirits of God as individual entities separate from the Holy Spirit.

As you would note, if you actually read the article I submitted on 9/28/07, this article was completely redone and examined in some detail at least 4 different interpretations of the Seven Spirits of God, including my book, among five other references.

It obviously must be an important topic since at least one other article was submitted for this subject. You have many articles that mention the Seven Spirits of God, but not a single article on this important topic.

The Seven Spirits of God

There seems to be considerable disagreement on the identity of the Seven Spirits of God. Some conjecture that the Seven Spirits of God are actually seven angelic beings that are found in the Book of Revelation (Revelation 4:6-9; 5:6-14; 19:4-5; Anonymous). Many authors simply refer to Isaiah 11:2 (anonymous, Capoccia) which yields:

Isa 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD The Spirit of wisdom The Spirit of understanding, The Spirit of counsel The Spirit of might, The Spirit of knowledge The Spirit of the fear of the LORD.

There are several problems with this particular list. First, all seven spirits would be Spirits of the Lord. Second, understanding and knowledge are basically the same thing, as are wisdom and counsel. Third, these are very similar to names that are used of the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:2; Judges 3:10; John 14:16-17,26, 15:26-27, 16:7-14, etc.). This probably helps to explain why some authors believe that the Seven Spirits of God merely represent the Holy Spirit and His ministries (Anonymous, Brother Tommie, Darwin, Fish). Bill Burns, for example, has proposed that the Seven Spirits of God are merely "the seven facets or manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life," which yields:

The Spirit of Justification (1 Corinthians 12:3) The Spirit of Sanctification (2 Thessalonians 2:13) The Spirit of Life (Romans 8:2) The Spirit of Truth (John 14:17) The Spirit of Wisdom (Ephesians 1:17) The Spirit of Deliverance (Matthew 12:28) The Spirit of Prayer (Romans 8:26)

A fourth interpretation, which is based on a study of scriptures taken throughout the entire Bible, beginning with the very first chapter of Genesis, and concluding with the very last chapter of Revelation, list the names of the Seven Spirits of God as (Straumfjord) :

Obviously, the there is a wide diversity of opinions about the subject of the Seven Spirits of God, probably because it hasn't been seriously investigated by the Church. Even though the Seven Spirits of God have largely been ignored by the Church, they could represent a source of great power. Since the Seven Spirits of God may form the nature of God Himself, they may also be able to empower the Church to complete the work of Christ in the world.

As you can plainly observe, this article represents a discussion of at least four different interpretations of the Seven Spirits of God. I don't understand how you can claim it represents pure individual new research when no pparticular viewpoint is elevated above the rest.
