DYK for Snowy plover[edit]

On 3 December 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Snowy plover, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that female snowy plovers often abandon their families as soon as the chicks hatch? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Snowy plover. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Snowy plover), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

I loved the cute birds on the Main page! - Today: thank you for TFA Ohmdenosaurus, introduced: "A little-known dinosaur whose carcass underwent a long and complicated journey before being deposited in the open ocean. As the first description of this genus is in German, this article is, to my knowledge, the only comprehensive account of the topic in English." --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:51, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thank you today for the article, introduced: "The snowy plover is one of the best studied shorebirds of the Americas, but also one of the rarest. I tried to include many interesting details while keeping everything as concise as possible. Review[edit]

Hi Jens, the GAN is getting a bit sticky, what with their not agreeing with much that anybody says. Do you think it has a realistic chance of passing? Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:22, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, I think that, without integration of extinct megaherbivores, it is far from meeting GA criterion 3a. And many statements are outright wrong due to these omissions, such as the claim about the k-strategy. Fossils are absolutely essential for this topic in my opinion. If the author does not see this, I don't know what else to do. But they said that they are planning to expand the article "to 35,000 bytes". Whether or not these additions will be on fossils, I don't know. Jens Lallensack (talk) 19:20, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Comments on FA nomination of Knowledge[edit]

Hello Jens, I wanted to let you know that I nominated the article Knowledge for featured article status, see Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Knowledge/archive1. There has been little to no response so far and I was wondering whether you might be interested in taking a look. If you have the time, I would appreciate your comments. Phlsph7 (talk) 12:47, 12 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Sure, I will have a look! I am sure this will generate more interest soon, being such an important topic. Jens Lallensack (talk) 13:04, 12 February 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
