Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years. Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader ( Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years. 12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:
Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.
This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:
Also, a quick mention of The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Greengreen, thank you for your support during my recent RfA. Your willingness to do your own homework, amidst much sound and fury at the end, meant a great deal to me. Warm regards, Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 14:47, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to advise me on that point. I was editing Thunderstorms article.IraChesterfield (talk) 03:09, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, Talk:Spokane, Washington. While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them, and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. However, keep in mind that even on the talk page of an article, you should limit your discussion to improving the article. Article talk pages are not the place to discuss opinions of the subject of articles, nor are such pages a forum. Thank you. Gtwfan52 (talk) 03:43, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
The page User:HD 140283: Revision history doesnt need to go through MfD. In the future you can just tag it with {db-author} template and it will be speedy deleted. I have added the tag. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 21:11, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

I spend all my time doing music articles that I found myself by accident on the Kepler-37b article you started and remembered how much I like astronomy. It also had be thinking about Kuhn's theory of paradigm shifts in science and his induction theories which is something I've not thought about in over 25 years (not an expert anyway). So thanks for the tap on the grey matter - it sounds a little less wooden than yesterday.

On 28 February 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article HD 140283, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that HD 140283 is thought to be the oldest known star, being nearly as old as the universe itself? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/HD 140283. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
