Michael Brelo Article

I am very new to Wikipedia so I apologize. Or I should say I'm a long time reader, relatively new to editing and I've never created a page before. So I don't know what I'm doing 100%. The Michael Brelo trail is a big deal here in Cleveland and I thought it was important nationally given the recently controversy around police brutality. I noticed there wasn't a page so I wanted to start one. Do you think it would help if I changed the page to Michael Brelo trial? Because that's really what this guy is famous for right now -- being accused of something and being at the center of a high profile trial. I don't know how I can describe him without explaining what he stands accused of. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Schmange19 (talkcontribs) 22:25, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Schmange19 and thanks for your post. I have blanked the article for now because it is a clear BLP violation. The subject is not notable outside the fact he has been charged and is being tried. If there is anything else about the subject you want to write and that you can support with reliable sources than please do so. If there isn't anything else notable about him please let me know and I will nominate the article for deletion. Best wishes Flat Out talk to me 06:20, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Need advice

Sir, Apologies for the bother. I am a new editor and wanted some advice. I had edited a page on Naya Nazimabad that you reverted due to BLP violations (assuming negative reporting on the sponsors of the project). However sources quoted include the Supreme Court of Pakistan judgements and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan orders apart from the multiple news sources. Is nothing negative allowed to be portrayed in such matters despite court judgements? I am not sure I want to take time rewriting parts. Just wanted to get advice for the future.

On a different note News about the project itself (the land development called Naya Nazimabad) was mostly negative. The Company's response to some of the news articles was also cited. Is that an issue since it is not a living person? Thank you for your time, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Insider99 (talkcontribs) 10:59, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Insider99 please read WP:BLPCRIME and WP:NPOV and let me know if you have any questions. Flat Out talk to me 02:46, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Advertising

Hello Flat Out, I noticed other AC/DC biographies included, and I thought it would be appropriate to add mine. Sorry I didn't realize it would be considered advertising. Sincerely, Rokcentral (talk) 06:48, 6 May 2015 (UTC)Susan Masino

Reverts

I am slightly confused by your reverts of my reverts in March re: ChenOne. I noticed you cited BLPCRIME, but WP:CENSOR was the live issue for me. The sources referenced clearly indicated the company and individual named were in violation of some laws of that country, and was found to be guilty as such. The edit claimed the information was 'bias' and 'disrespectful', despite the reputable sources otherwise. It was also clear that the individual had a court case pending in 2013, and was an appeal all the way to the Supreme Court of Pakistan: [1][2]. While I don't know the outcome of the case, they were indeed facts in accordance to the various sources.--Cahk (talk) 03:58, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi Cahk and thanks for your message. I have had a second look and agree that part of that section is OK but the sentence Other indivdials sued by the SECP included brothers of the CEO of ChenOne, namely Mian Muhammed Latif and Mian Muhammed Javaid Iqbal and other relatives namely, Mian Faisal Latif, Mian Farhan Latif, Mian Zeeshan Latif, Mian Rizwan Latif and Muhammed Irfan Maqbool. The said indivudals are currently out on bail seems a clear BLP violation to me. It is just one of many edits made by an editor who has used a number of articles to launch attacks. Please let me know what you think, I'm happy for the first part of the revert to be reinstated. Cheers Flat Out talk to me 04:04, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
I don't really care whether those passages get reverted - I was simply pointing out to you the revert was counter to why I did it in the first place. The Not Censored policy should be paramount to those who wants to edit out negative information. --Cahk (talk) 06:16, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
Sure, but Not Censored includes content that is judged to violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy, or that violates other Wikipedia policies (especially neutral point of view) or the laws of the United States will also be removed. Flat Out talk to me 00:49, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

Murder of Andrew Pea

Hi Flat Out, With regards to this article (as mentioned above) would it help in terms of authenticating the articles sourced if I either placed them online (say on a Facebook page) or had them scanned and sent to you? I did an exhaustive search via all available online methods with nil results, and the primary source of articles (The West Australian) has only managed to conduct online conversions for its post-1990 editions thus far. The other papers sourced (The Daily News & The Western Mail) are no longer in circulation.

In terms of the significance of this crime, it was the first of its kind in Perth and continued to haunt a generation of Western Australians due to both its random brutality and lack of solvability (despite the overwhelming existence of physical and eye-witness evidence). Any advice with regards to this matter would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Danny RopisDanny Ropis (talk) 14:17, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi Danny Ropis and thanks for your question. Sources need to be able to be verified by other editors. If you have sources that aren't freely available and that aren't held in web archives, placing copies online is an option, though I would advise against Facebook. Flat Out talk to me 00:20, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi Flat Out, Thanks for responding so promptly and for your guidance with this. Re your feedback is there another location (Facebook aside) that you'd recommend where I may be able to upload all the various articles/information sourced? As references utilized include a wide array of supporting documents including Court transcripts (and a pre-sentencing psychological analysis), coroner's reports and of course newspaper articles I'm a bit uncertain of the best method to concisely store this information for optimal external review. Best regards, Danny Ropis (talk) 02:40, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Danny Ropis I'd suggest you register a blog name at wordpress.com and upload the scanned copies there. Flat Out talk to me 04:15, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi Flat Out, thanks for that. All source material is now available for review at https://andrewpeamurder.wordpress.com/. I've also attempted to marry up the online and text sources on the article itself (albeit somewhat clumsily). Best regards Danny Ropis (talk) 10:11, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi Danny Ropis, a great job done too; well done. I have added the links into the references for you and removed them from the bottom of the article so every source is now available online. While this is not a requirement it certainly makes it easier for editors to verify content. Flat Out talk to me 05:28, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi Flat Out, Thank you very much for your patient assistance and guidance with this, really appreciated! Best regards, Danny Ropis (talk) 06:36, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

You're more than welcome Danny Ropis, please stay around and keep writing excellent articles - there are some great Australians stories to be told! Flat Out talk to me 00:42, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

12:22:07, 21 May 2015 review of submission by Dino-lite

Hello Flat Out, could you give me some guidance as i have rewritten the text not to read like an advertisement. I have compared with many company articles and do not see big differences in the way to describe what the company is doing from many other articles. About the references, i have added several that show notority - such as Cnet in 2008. Also, in https://scholar.google.com/scholar?start=40&q=%22Dino-Lite%22&hl=nl&as_sdt=0,5 Dino-Lite has 1120 entrees which imho shows notority in the scholarly world. Dino-lite (talk) 12:22, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi Dino-lite the real issue is that you don't have any inline citations, so that for a reader like me who doesn't know the company it reads like two thirds could be copied and pasted straight from a company brochure. I'm not saying it has been, but its easy to get that impression. I have looked at two of the links you had at the bottom of the article and I have moved them to support two statements made in the article. I also added the Reflist template under "References and you will see that this automatically creates the footnotes. Every statement you make in the article needs to be followed by a reliable and independent source that supports that statement. At present you don't have enough of these independent sources that have written about the range of microscopes. Also, at least one of the sources appears to be a paid review. Des Dowling

Hi Flat Out, You left a message on my Talk page a few weeks ago about my Des Dowling article, if you are able to help me with it that would be appreciated - anything that needs to be changed that you can suggest, I don't know what I'm doing wrong with it so if you have any suggestions that would be great! I have posted a message on my Talk page but also thought I'd post here since it's been a few weeks and you might not see it. Apologies if this is in the wrong section (I'm new to talking to editors on Wikipedia!) Not sure if I'm meant to click the 'edit' button? Happy to delete this and transfer it there if you prefer.
