January 2022[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text ((unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here)) at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text ((unblock|Your reason here)) at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Request reason:

My last edit in Wikipedia was in 2006 and I was unaware that Wikipedia's current policy now disallows any username that matches a website's domain name.

I do not expect to be making frequent edits to Wikipedia, however I'd rather not have a permanent ban due to my username being non-compliant.

I therefore respectfully request a replacement username that conforms with 2022 Wikipedia policy, consisting of my first initial, last name, and year of my birth.

As to the edit that triggered this audit, my contribution yesterday was to provide an update that the radio beacon KZ on 248 KHz referenced in the article has been permanently decommissioned (as per https://www.navcanada.ca/en/flight-planning/service-notices/2022-01-27-national.aspx).

I felt that an update was required because the article indicates the availability of a navigation aid for aircraft that is no longer operational, although pilots do have other means of knowing which navigation aids are available for any given airfield.

I thought it would be pertinent and of interest to readers include a short 30 video taken inside the transmitter hall showing the transmitter unit with audio of the transmitted signal 'KZ' in morse code, and the time stamped moment at which that final switch off occurred.

In addition, I believed that it was noteworthy that this low power navigation beacon has been logged as far away as California - almost 3500 KM away. I am aware however that such a claim would require attribution, which is why I provided a link to the 'Loggings' page for that beacon on a volunteer operated non-commercial site which I operate on behalf of the members of the 'NDB List', which exists to provide a database logs of NDBs from around the world.

I see that this might be construed as advertising, even though the site itself is volunteer run, is free to access, and following Wikipedia's model, permits no advertising of any kind.

May I suggest this short edit to the original article instead:

The NDB having the callsign 'KZ' was permanently decommissioned on January 27th as part of Nav Canada's 'NAVAID Modernization Program – Phase 7 National' initiative (ref: https://www.navcanada.ca/en/flight-planning/service-notices/2022-01-27-national.aspx)

Your appeal skips over the problem in your edit which added an external link to your website, classaxe.com. Please address that in your next appeal. Also, Wikipedia strongly advises against using real names. If you still want it, please re-request and add a note that you are aware of the risks. Cabayi (talk) 12:43, 30 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, I thought that I was supposed to use my own name rather than my company, and that real names would represent a problem only if they belonged to someone else. If dmf1908 causes any concern, then let me know and I'll pick another letter / number combination.

In regards to my appeal skipping over the problem in my original edit, please note that at the end of my previous appeal I wrote this, and that all references other than to Nav Canada's decommisioning notice had been removed:

Request reason:

I am requesting that my account be unblocked from making edits to entries for which I have particular knowledge or interest.

The original reason given for my block was that my previous username - set when I created my wikipedia account in 2006 - was Classaxe, and because I registered classaxe.com and later named my company ClassAxe Multimedia, the blocking administrator felt that my edit to the listing of Navigation Aids for KZ-Buttonville Airport, was commercial advertising for my company.

I found an acceptable username - dmf1908 - and changed my username to that instead. I would now like to have my permanent ban from editing to be rescinded.

I was present at the decommissioning of Radio Beacon KZ-248. My original edit cited a non-monetised Youtube video link to a tour of the transmission building, including recorded audio of the last few moments cycles transmitter's morse coded ident, and a time check showing the precise moment at which transmission ceased.

Given that this is the ONLY edit I have attempted to make to Wikipedia since 2006, and this (the use of my existing username since deemed illegitimate) was my first offence and only recorded offence, and that I have corrected the root complaint - my username - and offered an alternative edit to the article, I believe that it would be reasonable for me to ask that the permanent ban issued against me now be removed.

Respectfully yours,

Martin Francis dmf1908 (formerly classaxe)

My username has now been changed and no longer matches my website domain. I would like to have my permanent ban on editing removed. Thank you. Dmf1908 (talk) 12:17, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

This works for me, on the condition that you not edit about Classaxe or any other item you have a conflict of interest with. With that out of the way, I wish you a happy return to editing. Things have changed a lot since 2006, so don't be afraid to ask for help at the Teahouse or on my talk page. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:52, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
