Hello, Brandmeister. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
G'day from Oz; it's not necessarily ungrammatical to say that "Flight XXX" was an aircraft, although it may be a bit early in this case. The missing Boeing 777 is now known as MH370; when people say that the search for MH370 has not produced results or whatever, they are referring to the aircraft itself. There are plenty of other such cases as well. Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 17:51, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
I moved that last image further up the page because where you replaced it prevents the long reflist from displaying in two columns. A GA reviewer may notice that. All the best, Miniapolis 01:43, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
You took it upon yourself to remove one of the most unique sunsets on this encyclopedia to represent the southwest desert area. You claimed in your edit summary, that the "Photo Caption" read that is was due to smoke. That was untrue. The caption said noting of the sort. You had to click on the photo, and follow it to it's Commons description to find that info. I have replaced the photo with one that has no "SMOKE". Editing for the sake of editing is not a contribution my friend and the hoard of readers that clicked on that photo to view it this last 2 weeks would agree with me. Hopefully, you will not find a random excuse to eliminate the new one. Thanks, and happy editing.Pocketthis (talk) 22:10, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

The big story with the Rockettes is that they performed for the president's inauguration. That's highly relevant. You're right that we don't (yet) have a photo of the Rockettes kicking up their heels for the new president, but the mashup of two existing photos is the best we can do, and accurately conveys the idea of the performance; please consider reinstalling the image.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 21:53, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Hi. The article says she was married to Ali Pasha (hence not a mere concubine), and the "Ottoman concubines" category is about the concubines of Ottoman sultans (as it appears from its parent categories).--Phso2 (talk) 18:13, 25 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello. I have been translating a few articles from the Russian WP into the English one and MAKS Air Show is a problem as the level of detail, as retained by the translation, is deemed "way too much" for an air show like this, logs can be seen here and its talk page here. Can you notify in the talk page of the Russian article about that the article is too detailed, as noted on the English counterpart and requires some cleanup? Varxo (talk) 10:10, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Please, I need help for a translation (from Russian), not from an article, but from a source.
I was working in the articles Mari native religion and pt:Religião tradicional mari (in Portuguese).
The phrase "There is a significant discrepancy between the pantheons of the Lowlands Mari, who worship roughly 140 gods, and Highlands Mari, who worship about 70 gods" has as source the book Religious Rites of the Cheremis. Because given an entire book as a reference, even more in a language and script that probably most readers don't understand, I was looking for a page and quote (my idea was to put a quote in the original and translated); I suspect that the reference is the first phrase of the last paragraph of the page 5 (note that the page 5 of the book is the 7th page in the website with the book), that seems to be "Боговъ у луговыхъ черемисъ считается (съ матерями, пїамбарами , виднезями, праздничными и поминальными божествами) приблизительно около 140, у горныхъ 70".
What I wanted were:
a) confirmation that the letters that are in the phrase are exactly that
b) a translation (to English) of the passage
Some difficulties:
- It is a document in Adobe Flash (than you can't do copy-paste, you have to look letter-to-letter in a copy of an old document and know how to identify the cyrilic letters)
- It is a document of 1887, before the ortographic reform of 1918, than I can't even use a machine translator. The result of the machine translation of that page is "Bogov in lugovyh cheremis considered (Sh mothers pїambarami, vidnezyami, festive and memorial deities) of about 140, at 70 gornyh"; however, if I exclude the "ъ" at the end of the words (I think that was the rule after 1918), and mechanically translated Богов у луговых черемиъ считается (с матерями, пїамбарами , виднезями, праздничными и поминальными божествами) приблизительно около 140, у горных 70, the result is "Gods in the meadow cheremi considered (with mothers pїambarami, vidnezyami, festive and memorial deities) of about 140, the mountain 70" (sounds better).
- I don't know almost nothing about russian languade or cyrilic script (because that, I tried the machine translation).
If you could help me, I appreciate a reply in my page in the portuguese Wikipedia.
Thanks in advice (and hoping that you could understand my not-much-good English)--MiguelMadeira (talk) 16:39, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

I.e. - Is Matthew Grow, editor of The Council of Fifty, Minutes, March 1844–January 1846 (The Church Historian's Press, which is an imprint of Deseret Book; 2016), notable? Is Benjamin E. Hello Brandmeister,
Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from Russian to English Wikipedia?
This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original Russian article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:
There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including Russian , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from Russian. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.
If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:
All you have to do, is compare the English article to the Russian article, and assess them "Pass" or "Fail" (the ((Pass)) and ((Fail)) templates may be useful here). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then assessing it, that's even better, but it isn't required.) Also please note that we are assessing accuracy not completeness, so if the English article is much shorter that is okay, as long as whatever has been translated so far is factually accurate.
If you can help, please ((ping)) me here to let me know. You can add your pass/fails above, right next to each link, or you may indicate your results below. Thanks! Elinruby (talk) 07:27, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

The standard formats for several years, at least, at TFA have been year–year and date – date: if the TFA is running on a birth date (or rarely, a death date), then we have used the longer format. The new format started just this month, and is a response to the current discussion at WT:LEAD. I've always been in favor of the shortest possible parenthetical material at TFA ... what surprised me was seeing how many people have been getting on board with this position lately, regarding articles. So I can no longer justify including the death date at TFA when it isn't relevant to anything. I'm still required to give anniversary dates, of course. Thanks as always for paying attention to TFA. - Dank (push to talk) 20:01, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
