Eve Barlow[edit]

Hi @Artem.G: Thank you for being an active editor. Also thank you for adding the {notability} notability template that gently reminds me that my article needs more resources to pass WP:GNG. I added a few more. Now, I think nearly every source talks about the subject in a lot of detail and I believe it passes GNG and specifically it passes WP:AUTHOR. Can you kindly look over the sources, and if you agree, kindly remove the template you added. Thank you in advance. --PaulPachad (talk) 20:00, 30 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Deprodding of Tahiry Mosa[edit]

I have removed the ((proposed deletion/dated)) tag from Tahiry Mosa, which you proposed for deletion, because its deletion has previously been contested or viewed as controversial. Proposed deletion is not for controversial deletions. For this reason, proposed deletion is disallowed on articles that have previously been de-prodded, even by the page's creator, or which have previously been listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the ((proposed deletion)) template back to the article, but feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! • Gene93k (talk) 15:51, 23 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Proposed deletions of several politicians

Hello, I notice that you have proposed the deletion of the articles for several Malagasy politicians. The proposals include several members of the Senate with the rationale, "This person is just a member of a political party." This is not only counterfactual, it goes against Wikipedia notability guidelines for inclusion. Please review Wikipedia notability guidelines, especially WP:POLITICIAN before continuing. • Gene93k (talk) 15:51, 23 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I came here to say exactly the same thing - I don't have time today to remove all of these unjustified WP:PROD tags, but as you had time to add them I hope you have time to remove them too. Phil Bridger (talk) 19:50, 23 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Phil Bridger: @Gene93k: I understood your points but still think that I wasn't wrong to propose deletion. For example, here for René Razafiarison the only source is this link that goes to archive, but for another person - RAKOTOMAMONJY Jean Max. Here for Roland Ravatomanga the only source goes to the arhived page of RAJAONSON Bruno. Here for Jean André Soja the only source is a dead link. Here for Christophe Samuel the only source is to archive, and that name is not on the page. And almost the same is true for every of these articles. So, I still think that all these articles should be deeted, unless somebody wouldn't provide valid sources. Artem.G (talk) 05:50, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Dead links are a cleanup issue, and deletion is not cleanup. The recurring problem in these articles is reliance on ONE now-broken web site. This kind of deletion tagging to force a 7-day cleanup deadline is disruptive. Also, PROD is for uncontroversial deletions. Members of a parliament are not uncontroversial despite your assertion that the subjects lack significance. • Gene93k (talk) 07:03, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • @Gene93k: So, in your opinion, an article with just a name and one broken link that should verify that this person is a politician is ok? Or is it just a question that a reason I mention for deletion is different? In that case I can agree, I wasn't so sure about the rules. But anyway, in my opinion, if no new sources would be provided, all these articles should be deleted as stubs that lack ANY sources at all. Artem.G (talk) 08:37, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • I just fixed the Johanita Ndahimananjara page, which you tagged for deletion. The link that was still working was enough to show that the subject passes WP:POLITICIAN. Dead links are an ongoing maintenance issue. In most of the 30+ tagged articles, replacement references can be found. That's why dead links are generally considered eventually surmountable problems, and on Wikipedia eventually is soon enough. Wikipedia editors are expected to use common sense when applying policies and guidelines. If sourcing is a problem, first of all assume good faith. Again, the essential facts check out in most of the tagged articles I have gone over. Try to fix the problem or tag it for a another editor to find and fix. That's what maintenance tags are for. Deletion is the remedy of last resort. • Gene93k (talk) 10:08, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • Despite your ProD rationale, officeholders at a certain level are notable for inclusion in Wikipedia per WP:POLITICIAN. It is Wikipedia's goal to cover all of them, MPs, cabinet ministers, high court judges, etc. They are considered notable because they govern, and significant reliable source coverage is presumed to be available eventually. • Gene93k (talk) 10:08, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
  • thanks for clarification, I will undo my deletion proposals. Sorry for that, I was really thinking that deletion of bad-sourced articles is a good idea. Artem.G (talk) 10:41, 24 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Infoboxes[edit]

Hello! I wanted to thank you for adding information to the infobox at the Walt Whitman page. However, traditionally, we have kept infoboxes for writers very sparse and simple. There just isn't room to explicate and, as a result, any non-objective info there is too generalized to be worthwhile and has the potential to violate WP:NPOV and WP:OR. Please reconsider building these infoboxes any further, especially for articles which have already been recognized as good articles, like that of Whitman. Again, thank you for contributing. --Midnightdreary (talk) 15:00, 10 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

An article you recently created, Kruhlaye, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Wordcount for GA backlog drive[edit]

Hey, I noticed at Talk:Everywhere at the End of Time/GA2 that you said you included refs when calculating the wordcounts you listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/GAN Backlog Drives/July 2021. I'm pretty sure that's not the expected procedure. The Prosesize script that the backlog page says to use to calculate wordcount only reports a count for the body prose, so I'm not sure how you're even getting the larger figure. Colin M (talk) 00:41, 16 July 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Thanks, I'll check again! Maybe I wasn't attentive enough, I just googled some script and use it. Thanks for notice. Artem.G (talk) 05:29, 16 July 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Rejection of Draft:DietPi[edit]

Dear Artem,

you commented: not every Linux distributive is notable, it is not clear how this one is. And most of the refs are to someone's github pages or toDietPi themselves.

As we evaluate the number of active DietPi installations we come to a count of approx. 100 000 Linux systems running based on DietPi. See DietPi survey page. Do you think that this number is a notable amount to issue a Wikipedia article? I could also explain how we try to determine the active installations, if this is of interest.

The refs showing to DietPi based pages are 14 references, refs showing not to DietPi pages are 17 references. Could you give me a hint for a better distribution? How many "project external" links should be used compared to "project internal" ones?

Regards, StephanStS

IMO you should include something that demonstrate how DietPi stand out from all other linux-based OSs. Right now there is a general description of features, but it's not clear why should be notable? If it, f.e. is moat popular one for RaspPi, or was featured by some notable source, it can be considered notable. And I wouldn't review it next time, as I might be biased. Artem.G (talk) 15:39, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Dear Artem.G,

thank you very much for the hints in your comment. This helps to improve the article.

One additional question is, whether you could give a list of the expressions you mentioned with Neologisms so that I could change them to a better wording.

Review of Cyclone Felleng[edit]

Hello! Thanks for reviewing Cyclone Felleng. Just a small note for future reviews: please make sure that the article isn't mostly copied from it's respective season article (in this case, 2012–13 South-West Indian Ocean cyclone season), since sometimes this would make it eligible for A10. If it isn't qualified for A10, but is still an unattributed intrawiki copy, please provide attribution by making a dummy edit. Please also be careful with the contents of the draft. Its "See also" section contained exclusively "please add stuff", which wasn't resolved before being published to mainspace. Chlod (say hi!) 13:55, 12 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Pathfinder poststamp.jpeg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Pathfinder poststamp.jpeg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Sojourner (rover)[edit]

Hi Artem.G. During my c/e, I've marked the section "The Rover Team" as unreferenced because it names a lot of presumed living people. These need citing per WP:BLP even though the article is not primarily a BLP article. I also don't understand why for the names of the rover operators are given in small text beneath each section; if these are important they should be mentioned ans cited in text.
I also think there are too many images in the article. I suggest moving most of them to the gallery section and keep just the most relevant ones in the text. I'm not sure of the best way to deal with the large, panoramic images and the large image map near the bottom of the article. This is beyond the scope of copy-editing so I've left the structure intact. Anyway, good luck improving this interesting article and getting it to GA and FA status. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 21:55, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Baffle gab1978 (talk · contribs), thanks a lot for you work, the article became much more readable! You are probably right in all of your comments; i've commented the entire Rover Team section, though I'll try to find a reliable source for it. The names of Primary Investigators are given for all important experiments and instruments, I think it's important and helps to understand that some papers cited were written by the PI/developers of the instrument mentioned. Regarding images - I will look through them again, you are probably right, but it's a bit hard for me to remove them - images are really good IMO :) Thanks again, I hope the article is ready for GAN review now. Hack computer[edit]

Hi @Artem.G: None of that article that you just promoted is sourced correctly. I moved it to draft so the editor could take some time to edit and add sources. It violates WP:NOT as it is description of a product which is a manual. scope_creepTalk 18:49, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi @Scope creep! in my opinion the article is not that bad, it seems to be not just a manual, but a concept used in an (influential) textbook. though I do agree that not enough sources are cited, but it can be improved by a broader community if it's not in a draft space. I would suggest to place all these concerns into talk page and maybe use {unsourced} tag, so people would see it, and somebody (maybe the main author) would probably improve refs.
but if you would draftify it again I wouldn't interfere and review it next time; there were no message on the talk page about any problems with sources or being a manual. Artem.G (talk) 20:03, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I thought it would be obvious to anybody looking at it. It isn't 2008 anymore. The consensus is that article must be referenced, every sentence, if it is mainspace. See what somebody else makes of it. scope_creepTalk 20:11, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

DYK for Sojourner (rover)[edit]

On 27 October 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sojourner (rover), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the first successful Mars rover, Sojourner (pictured), was named after the Civil War–era African-American abolitionist and women's rights advocate Sojourner Truth? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sojourner (rover). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sojourner (rover)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Computer program utility section[edit]

I reworded your revert of utility programs. Your justification seemed to suggest that any computer program could be a utility program. Whereas this seems true, the textbook I cited used "Utility Programs" as a section in the textbook. I reworded the article by taking out the job titles of those who may be executing utility programs. The textbook author used these titles, so that's how I originally wrote it.

Also, the good article reviewer said each section needs to be balanced. So, if you have a textbook that can add useful utility program information, then the article will benefit. Timhowardriley (talk) 19:28, 28 October 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Belyana revert[edit]

Care to chat about [1]? There are lots of terms in this article for which the Russian word could be given, but it wouldn't be relevant. Your revert includes no edit summary so I don't know your reasoning. Retswerb (talk) 21:50, 6 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

As it is a Russian ship, the terms in Russian are relevant. It can be useful if you care to check the sources in Russian and need to understand the term, without this you would be completely lost in a 1911 book where google translate wouldn't help. Artem.G (talk) 08:11, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Currently the other places where Russian is used make sense - they follow on terms for which there is not a direct English equivalent. Giving the Russian word for "cabin" stands out as we already have a word for that. Retswerb (talk) 09:01, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I've got your point, but it's not the case. The Russian work казёнка does means 'cabin' or 'house', but I've never heard this word before, it's either old one or was used only for belyanas. I can spell kazenka instead of a cabin, but it was easier to use standard word (cabin) and give its translation from the sources. Do you think that a note would be more useful than a translation placed in the text? Artem.G (talk) 09:13, 7 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Yep, a note is probably an excellent solution. Either way not a big deal, just something that stood out in the context of an excellent and fascinating article. Retswerb (talk) 00:21, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks! I'll add a note a bit later. Artem.G (talk) 05:40, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Greg Brockman[edit]

Hello Artem, I've seen that you follow the Open AI page. I'm pretty sure you've heard about Greg Brockman. A few weeks ago I posted the draft but the situation is a bit difficult since the article has been deleted several times due to the lack of sources back to the time. Only because of your interest in the topic, I'd like to ask you if you could give any comment on the Greg Brockman Wiki article? Спасибо. С наилучшими пожеланиями, Katyborsh (talk) 10:20, 19 November 2021 (UTC)katyborshReply[reply]

@Katyborsh: I've looked through your draft and it seems to be fine and sourced. The article was previously deleted in 2016, so now there are probably more coverage on Brockman. Artem.G (talk) 08:31, 20 November 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Artem.G: Thanks a lot! I've been debating with one of the guys who deleted it and he sounded very discouraging. So, do I understand it right that I just need to wait for the draft approval? Katyborsh (talk) 08:52, 20 November 2021 (UTC)katyborshReply[reply]

Borgund Stave Church[edit]

Hi Artem.G. Some years ago, I did some intensive editing at the above article. Your additions (made quite a time ago) are interesting; however, I find some rather puzzling. You've used some terms I'm unfamiliar with in an architectural or constructional context, in the first and last paragraphs of the subsection on Interior, per this linked change - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Borgund_Stave_Church&oldid=1014809806 - in particular, "pliers". Should this be "piers", perhaps, or "pillars"? If the spelling is correct, the term is obscure enough to warrant explanation. A couple of uses of "rod" could also be clarified in context; a "rod" in everyday usage tends to be a slender, usually lengthy object. Do drop me a line if you wish! Haploidavey (talk) 18:58, 10 December 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

@Haploidavey: you're right, this is a typo, that should be 'piers' of course. I try to catch my typos, though they slip away sometimes. Thanks for noticing! "rod" here should be something like "a thin straight bar, especially of wood or metal", please rephrase if you can put it clearer. Artem.G (talk) 19:33, 10 December 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Phew, thank all the dictionary godlings for that! I had quite a time of it trying to find the most appropriate English terminology for some of the Churches's interior and exterior structure, and when I saw "pliers" my brain initially froze, thinking that I really knew nothing about it and should withdraw with dignity while I had the chance. I think I'd call the rods "ties" as that seems to be their function, and ties aka rods are usually strong in compression and stretch but slighter than the things they tie together. Autopatrolled granted[edit]

Hi Artem.G, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Milky Way mass as unit of measure for large objects instead of Sun mass[edit]

I recently added a post to use Milky Way mass as a unit of measure for larger objects like other galaxies or quasars - not sure why you call it obscure. What's obscure is to measure mass of elephant size objects in terms of accurate mass of poppy seeds, just analogy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.127.41.165 (talk) 21:04, 21 December 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I understand what you want to do, but to say that the mass of Milky Way equal to 1 Milky Way says nothing. If you want to compare mass some Galaxy ABC with that of the Milky Way, it can be done on the page about that galaxy. Right now it's like saying that the mass of an elephant is 1 elephant. And besides, it should be used by verified sources to be included, if it's not used in a professinal literature it's just wrong to be here. Artem.G (talk) 21:10, 21 December 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

My point is not about writing or saying one equals one. Idea is that ex-galactic objects should be measured in terms of unit sizes of the same class object, and in our case Milky Way would be candidate number one. Same way we have Me (mass of the Earth) and use it to measure other planets. Same way M0 (mass of the Sun) to measure relative mass of other stars. Now, point is, that other galaxies like Andromeda or IC 1101 have nothing todo with mass of Sun, its too far and too small, and why mass of a Sun is still in use as base to measure mass of galaxies 100 or 1000 times larger, its a flaw in a choice of SI standards. Also if you looking for true references, existing literature going wrong way with this, and has to be changed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.127.41.165 (talk) 21:55, 21 December 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

If we had base unit of mass for ex-galactic objects, galaxy IC 1101 is ~1600 times mass of Milky Way, makes more sense than having ex trillion of sand grains to compare to. Also Sun mass will change faster than the mass of a Milky Way, unit of mass should be stable and based on the same objects class in question. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.127.41.165 (talk) 22:10, 21 December 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Just looking at some of the recent AfD cases, it seems you are not carrying out WP:BEFORE ahead of raising nominations. I strongly advise you to do so. Also, you cannot give 200 years ago or some time ago as valid reasons for a perceived lack of notability. You nominated one guy who apparently, though no one has actually named the source, played in 30+ first-class cricket matches and so he is obviously notable and the article is a valid stub awaiting development. Hope this helps. NGS Shakin' All Over 21:52, 15 April 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Cygnus X-1[edit]

I guess, your complete removal of a poorly written statement wasn't the best choice. While the phrase itself is obviously wrong, without it the surrounding logical construction falls apart. I suspect that what it was supposed to mean is that neutron stars can have their magnetic moment not aligned with the angular momentum, and thus their rotation produces a quickly rotating magnetic field responsible for pulsations, but this mechanism is impossible for black holes (not because they "do not have magnetic poles" but because their magnetic field is stationary). So it would be better to rewrite that phrase correctly (perhaps checking what the cited original sources actually say) instead of completely removing it... — Mikhail Ryazanov (talk) 19:14, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You are probably right, though I don't have necessary references to prove it. If you could rephrase it, and I think your understanding is correct, it would be great if you'll do it. If no, please revert my edit, though I'll try to reread that section and rewrite it later. (Though I can't promise it as I am really busy these days...) Artem.G (talk) 19:25, 23 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I didn't find any direct statements in the cited sources, but there has been a discussion on the talk page preceding the insertion of that paragraph, unfortunately, from an anonymous editor. The argument that regular pulsations (with a well defined period) are linked to a rotating magnetic field makes sense and is appropriate to mention. But the reasoning about the no-hair theorem was wrong, even though the final conclusion (black holes can't support regular pulsations) is correct. So I rewrote that sentence to make it clear that the magnetic field must rotate and that this is impossible for black holes. — Mikhail Ryazanov (talk) 19:33, 28 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hi Artem.G, the link that you removed as being a dead link is available from the Internet Archive:

I invite you to review the instructions at WP:DEADREF, part of the citing sources content guideline. As this guideline states, Do not delete a citation merely because the URL is not working. Dead links should be repaired or replaced if possible. That text then continues with step-by-step instructions for searching for archival links.

One further note: when you do find an archival link for a dead link, you can use https://citer.toolforge.org/citer.fcgi to properly format all the parameters, although you may wish to remove or replace the date parameter if it has defaulted to the archive date. BalinKingOfMoria (talk) 00:21, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

BalinKingOfMoria this was a properly attributed quote. I can agree that the quote was too long, but as it was properly attributed to a source, and inside a blockquote template, I don't agree that it is a copyright violation. Artem.G (talk) 06:40, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Keeping in mind that I'm no expert on the matter, my understanding of WP:COPYQUOTE is that attribution is sufficient to avoid plagiarism, but that copyright can still be an issue if too much material is used verbatim. Fair use is often a grey area AFIAK, but my impression of the quote was that it was a pretty sizeable paragraph, and so better safe than sorry.
With that said, if you still disagree, let me know and I'd be happy to start a discussion at Wikipedia:Copyright_problems (hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me about Wikipedia policy can help). BalinKingOfMoria (talk) 06:50, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I don't really care if it would be removed from the article, I just think it's not the case of copyright violation. Artem.G (talk) 07:20, 26 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hello! + Madetoja[edit]

Hi, Artem.G! It's nice to make your acquaintance. I appreciate you periodically poking around the articles I create/update (sometimes in haste!) about lesser-known Finnish and Swedish composers. Madetoja's music really is quite wonderful, and I am so very glad to hear that it has made an impression on you. My preference is for the interpretations on Ondine by John Storgårds and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, but the Alba five-disc set by Arvo Volmer and the Oulu Symphony Orchestra is unbeatable in its exhaustive coverage. The Ostrobothnians, however (and surprisingly), can be hard to come by, because only Finlandia Records has produced commercial recordings. I own the interpretation by Jukka-Pekka Saraste and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and it's lovely... although, not being a big opera fan myself, I prefer the suite that Madetoja excerpted (the same goes for Juha, and you can find two excerpted orchestral works from that opera courtesy of Volmer/Alba). I initially, with the invaluable help of jack-of-all-trades Finnusertop (talk · contribs), worked on Madetoja back in 2016, but I have been returning to his articles of late (as well as creating new ones for The Garden of Death and Kullervo) since I have learned some new tricks and improved as an editor since then. May I also recommend to you the music of Uuno Klami, Lars-Erik Larsson, and Dag Wirén? ~ Silence of Järvenpää 17:31, 19 November 2022 (UTC) PS: Sorry about the mix-up on the Toivo Kuula WL... I tend to bounce around pages as I edit, and so things are in various stages of not done, done, and done-done. :)Reply[reply]

Hey Silence of Järvenpää, thanks for nice message and recommendations! I'm not a big fan of opera, but I do like new music! I got really interested in Kalevala and Kalevala-related music after I saw this video of guys reading the poem [2]. I don't know Finnish, but it sound beautiful :) I read some of your Sibelius articles, and they are great - I'm (slowly) listening to his music, and will try Madetoja and others you've recommend. Klami sounds familiar, though I doubt I know any of his works, others are totally new for me! And thanks for your articles, it's always great such nice work on (obscured?, or, even, previously neglected) musicians and works. Artem.G (talk) 16:33, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re: Agree with previous revert, it unsourced or just OR if based on two historical maps only. Find a real source that says about differences in borders.[edit]

  1. Which of the statements that you reverted isn't backed by the cited historical map (these are two sheets of the same map) which clearly shows the historic municipal boundary?
  2. Is https://www.nli.org.il/he/newspapers/ytlv/1949/01/15/01/article/6/ which includes both a map of changes, and their textual description, a source that's acceptable to you?

Middle-earth in film[edit]

Artem.G, I agree with your reversion here, and not pleased that the editor immediately moved to yet another title. Not very happy with the editor's other changes either, really. For instance he's also moved Template:Middle-earth films. Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:40, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Agree, though I don't know enough policies that can prevent such renames. It's especially strange when the people moving pages made no other contributions to moved articles. Artem.G (talk) 16:36, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, the article and template are about moving pictures only, not games, figurines, books, theatre plays, music, or anything else, so the current titles are wrong - we already have material on other adaptations so now there is overlap and confusion. How does a new user do it? Easily, and the sanctions are hard to apply for content-based disruption: if they edit-war it's easier. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:29, 30 December 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

It is located near the border of the constellations Sagittarius and Scorpius, about 5.6 degrees south of the ecliptic, visually close to the Butterfly Cluster and Lambda Scorpii. On May 12, 2022, astronomers released this first image of the accretion disk around the event horizon of Sagittarius A*, produced in April 2017 by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), a worldwide network of radio observatories, confirming the object to be a black hole. This was the second confirmed image of a black hole, after EHT's image of M87* released in 2019.

Re article ChatGPT, an edit would be helpful.[edit]

Re article ChatGPT, not only is the article currently semi-protected, but its Talk page is also semi-protected (unregistered users not only can't make improvements to the page, but also can't even suggest them.) This strikes me as a pretty un-Wikipedian way of doing things.

As a workaround, perhaps you could make this change:

Article currently says

To prevent offensive outputs from being presented to and produced from ChatGPT, queries are filtered through OpenAI's company-wide moderation API, and potentially racist or sexist prompts are dismissed.

I don't understand the implications of this statement, and I'm sure that there must be many other users who also don't.

At a minimum, could we at least make API a link here, so that users could easily read our article about API?

Altered speedy deletion rationale: FAST J0139+4328[edit]

Hello Artem.G, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I deleted FAST J0139+4328, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow and specific, and the process is more effective if the correct criterion is used. Byzantine art article[edit]

Thank you for reviewing my article. Can you elaborate why my source is not important, considering he is a creditable scholar and archeologist? Hellokitty6688 (talk) 16:23, 26 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

hey, this is the section: Archaeologist and scholar A.L. Frothingham traces these influences in an article titled "Notes on Byzantine Art and Culture in Italy and Especially in Rome," published in The American Journal of Archaeology in 1895.<ref ((Cite journal |last=Frothingham |first=A. L. |date=1895 |title=Notes on Byzantine Art and Culture in Italy and Especially in Rome |url=https://www.jstor.org/stable/496574 |journal=The American Journal of Archaeology and of the History of the Fine Arts |volume=10 |issue=2 |pages=152–208 |doi=10.2307/496574 |issn=1540-5079)) /ref> The article explores the influence of Byzantine art and culture in Italy, particularly in Rome. Frothingham examines the development of Byzantine art in Italy from the early Christian period to the late Middle Ages, discussing the various influences and styles that emerged during this time. He also considers the role of Byzantine art in the cultural and intellectual life of Italy, and how it influenced the development of Italian art and the Renaissance.
I see several issues here - first, it's sourced only by a primary source, so it's not clear why is this publication important, and who consider it to be important. Surely there are many papers that "traces these influences", do we want to mention them all? And second, the description is very obscure - "Frothingham examines the development" ... "discussing " ... "He also considers the role". The article was published 120+ years ago, surely there should be better sources that say how exactly Byzantine art impacted "the cultural and intellectual life of Italy".
It's better to have this conversation on the article's talk page, but I think that inclusion of vague description of 120+ old article is undue and doesn't bring anything to the subject, except the information that some archaeologist examined it a long time ago. Artem.G (talk) 07:59, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's also unusual to write about the publication on the subject - it can be used as a source or maybe listed in Further reading, but why should this single publication be mentioned in the text? Artem.G (talk) 08:14, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you, your explanation is very clear and helpful. Hellokitty6688 (talk) 17:04, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Replying here, not on GA talk page...[edit]

First of all, thank you for merely reverting my edit and for your deference in not slapping a whopping great big vandalism warning on my talk page. Seems to be one of the few perks us/we old timers have here at Wikipedia. Come to think of it, a "good faith" whatchamacallit in the Revision history might have been nicer.

You kindly invite/request me to bring up any issues I may have regarding the article on the corresponding talk page (see comment below). However, I decline to do so. Basically because I can't be bothered. Why is that? Because I arrived at that article by chance, saw that it had a coupla wonky bits, fixed 'em, noticed in passing that the vast majority of the current 186 references did not conform to what I have always been led to be believe is the standard format (while I am aware of certain slight differences among them, basically, and I'm sure you'll be more than happy to correct me if I'm wrong, most major referencing styles including, as far as I'm aware, Wikipedia templates, put the author's surname (or, if you prefer, last name) followed by her/his initial(s) or first name, and then had the gall to slap a "large" copyedit tag (actually just the standard Twinkle tag) and went on my merry way to carry on patrolling, revert a couple of vandal edits and then to enjoy my well-earned dinner.

However, ignoring both the spirit and the letter of the 3rd circumstance by which, according to WP:WTRMT (admittedly a mere "how-to guide", not one of yer high-falutin' Wikipedia policies or guidelines), a maintenance template may be removed (cited below for your convenience):

3. If it reasonably appears that the template did not belong when placed or was added in error. Consider first discussing the matter with the original placer of the template (unless this user is no longer active on Wikipedia). In any case, if the issue appears contentious, seek consensus on the talk page... (my bold)

you took it upon yourself to revert my "large" copyedit tag without "first discussing..." or, if you considered the issue to be "contentious", seeking "consensus"...

BTW, reading between the lines here, it seems that you are especially upset because I had the gall to slap a "large" copyedit tag on a GA, a GA from ten years ago, which has since been reviewed and... Are you seriously suggesting that after ten years of exposure to the singular conditions of an "encyclopedia that anyone can edit" a GA article may not be in the need of a thorough revision? That's obviously a rhetorical question since, as you may already have gathered from the tone of this reply to your reversion of my good faith edit, yours truly is not in the slightest bit interested in your reply. As in, save yourself the effort and sieze the opportunity use the time I'm so kindly saving you in reviewing the GA under discussion. Happy editing! --Technopat (talk) 21:25, 7 June 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Infobox image[edit]

Hello, I notice that you reverted an edit made by the GA nominator of Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, who has been working through GAN comments (see Talk:Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter/GA3). According to the GAN process, you are welcome to comment and work on the article, but it would be appreciated if fly-by edits you make are discussed first.

The image you replaced was put there as an improvement on the one that was there before, as although both are artists' impressions, the JPL's image has a background. and the link to the source is of more use. I don't see how the image you prefer is in any way better. Amitchell125 (talk) 08:03, 19 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Hey, I haven't seen the review, but it's the change of the long-standing picture that should be discussed, not the other way around. the current picture gives an idea of the whole spacecraft, while the proposed replacement is only an "artist's" view and does not show the whole craft, only the "face view". Artem.G (talk) 12:15, 19 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Edit war in Spacecraft: Discussion[edit]

Honestly, it doesn't make sense. First off, why not trim other details. I'm pretty sure the Mars ISRU is included in the main article. Also, information about the launch system as a whole (not the spacecraft) is included. Why aren't you trimming that? You could go ahead and trim the orbital refueling bit as well (because it's not proven). Second, it's not undue. It's a bit hard to explain, but this is how Starship will return to Earth from Mars. And the Mars bit is an important part of its operations. CoastRedwood (talk) 19:49, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

hey CoastRedwood! First of all, I didn't even think that's an edit war, sorry for that! I cut few things about Mars as undue because right now it's only plans, and Musk's plans are always too grandiose. When the Starship will be successfully launched, then successfully launched with cargo, and then with people, only then I think the details about refueling on Mars will make sense. Right now the 'Mars bit' exists only in Musk's grand vision of things, and though I'll be excited to see it happens, I still think that it's undue to include it at that stage. The second point is that the whole section is unsourced - you're right that the ship measurements can be fetched from the main article, but claims that it'll make everything cheaper (with quotes) should be properly attributed to reliable sources. Artem.G (talk) 21:34, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I feel like this war will go on for a bit longer (or this discussion). You have some points with the unsourced and too much stuff about Starship, but that doesn't relate to the topic. Even if it is just a plan, it deserves to be included because of its significance. The Sabatier reaction also exists. By the way why have you been trimming the article but not adding to it? (I know cause I looked through the history)
(The section is not completely unsourced, the spacecraft length and thrust of both stages come from the SpaceX website). CoastRedwood (talk) 06:28, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
My main concern was sourcing - when Elon tweets something, it's primary source, and wikipedia requires secondary, independent and reliable sources. This article you've added [4] is a good one, and if any independent source that discusses proposed Starship usage on Mars exists it would be enough for the article. Artem.G (talk) 06:36, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Ok.
Though how are
hy are primary sources now less reliable than secondary ones? If you want to find out about a new invention your neighbour is making and how it works, you'd ask your neighbour. Why ask someone living in a different suburb who just knows about it from the news making a big fuss a bout it. CoastRedwood (talk) 08:11, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
check Wikipedia:Identifying and using primary sources and Wikipedia:Reliable sources and undue weight. Briefly, primary sources that state facts can be fine, but here that's not facts, but proposals that can be exaggerated for publicity/funding/etc. Using your metaphor, your neighbour can brag that he invented the theory of everything, but if nobody can verify it than it's just a fringe view. Artem.G (talk) 11:11, 15 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
another issue is that the article about spacecraft is a general one, and the section about Starship is already larger than many other sections. Surely it is important, but is it more important than all uncrewed spacecraft? Or than all the previous crewed ones? Artem.G (talk) 21:37, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Your revert of my edit in Parker Solar Probe[edit]

I moved a picture on the Parker Solar Probe page. You reverted me. I wanted to explain. That picture was already on the page; it had been added since I last looked. First, I didn't think that picture--or really, any picture--needed to be in the section where I found it, and I felt it was more relevant where I move it. Second, on my Mac (which is where I made the change)--but not on the PC I'm using just now--the picture crowds the table and prompts some awkward line breaks. Stewart Brand article updating[edit]

Hello Artem G. About your undo-ing in the Stewart Brand article, to remove a term I added in opening description of the man: I'll explain why I put the term "bootstrapper" in.

I've followed Stewart Brand's contributions to North American life for some decades. I've also read the complete article as it has developed over time. Brand is someone who has accomplished a great deal without the financial assistance of grants and usually not that of investors, either. Especially his early projects were accomplished using whatever means he could muster to put the required money together. For instance, the original issues of the Whole Earth Catalogs were "typeset" using an IBM Selectric typewriter. He built his career and reputation on that sort of self-reliance.

The now fairly common verb "to bootstrap" is metaphoric and refers to launching an undertaking with minimal financial resources. So I put bootstrapper in as an accurate term referring to Brand's personal style or one of the roles he's been well known for, not as a job title.Joel Russ (talk) 05:09, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Artem, would you accept the broader term "project developer"? Because I definitely feel that to open the article with a sentence that solely describes Brand as a writer is incomplete and misleading.Joel Russ (talk) 16:30, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
hey, I missed the first message somehow, sorry for that! I think it's better to discuss this question on the article's talk page. I understand what you mean by "project-bootstrapper", but the problem is that that's not a real job, not a real title, and not something that was ever written about the man, and that's why I reverted your edit. Artem.G (talk) 16:35, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Artem, I applaud your conscientious contribution to Wikipedia. I'd simply like to arrive at clarity about the writing of descriptive first sentences in bio articles.
First sentence in the Eric Hoffer article, he's described as a writer & philosopher, but his job was longshoreman (only mentioned much later in the article). Harper Lee is described as an author, though she held jobs as a bookstore clerk and as an airline reservation agent. Clarence Birdseye is remembered as the inventor of the food "freeze drying" process, but his job had been with the Department of Agriculture. John Muir is known as a naturalist, environmental philosopher, and major figure in the American parks movement, but he’d been employed in a wagon-wheel factory. My philosophy prof mentioned to our class that the famous Greek philosopher Socrates was employed as a bricklayer. Baruch Spinoza was another philosopher of enduring eminence, but his trade was lens grinder. Adolf Hitler is of course known as the Nazi politician & dictator he became, but before that he had jobs doing casual labor and water-color painting. In the bio of Karl Hess, the first sentence describes him as an author speechwriter (he wrote highly regarded speeches for a U.S. senator); but the second sentence and the article itself bring out the fact that he ultimately earned a living as a welder. And, even aside from first-sentences, Robert S. de Ropp is now most remembered as a spiritual teacher and author, though his employment had been botanist/biochemist and cancer researcher.
To me, these facts indicate two things: first, someone's significance can be their uniqueness, role or contribution, which may not always be revealed by jobs they've held or by conventional job titles; second, clearly not all Wikipedia bio articles mention worthy individuals' jobs in the introductory first sentence. So... would you feel it inappropriate if, instead of "project-bootstrapper" I put in "project developer"? Or, knowing what you know about Brand, what word(s) might you suggest?Joel Russ (talk) 01:28, 21 November 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
