Hot Lava is a first-person platformer game.[1][2][3][4] Based on the children's game,[5] it involves the player controlling an action figure to navigate rooms without touching the lava-covered floor.[2] While moving, the player character can jump, slide, and swing.[1] Highlighted objects, including ropes and poles, can be interacted with.[3]
Mark Laprairie initially developed Hot Lava in 2015 before it was bought by Klei Entertainment.[2] In 2016, Hot Lava was open for beta testing,[1][6] and at the time, the game was planned to release for PC.[5] It is Klei Entertainment's first 3D game.[1]
