Lawrence P Kaster was born in 1951, in Hibbing, Minnesota.

He received his BA in 1974 at the University of Dallas in Irving. His primary focus was Ceramics, but he also learned photography, drawing, and printmaking. For several years he worked as a Studio Potter in on Oak Cliff, sold his work in craft fairs and galleries in the US, and participated in many juried exhibits.

In 1979 he decided to pursue a Graduate degree and attended Southern Methodist University, receiving his MFA in 1982.

His work included painting and printmaking in addition to ceramics, and after graduation he began painting for commercial spaces all over the world. He still produces ceramics and woodwork for special projects. Occasional private commissions fill out his busy creative schedule.

His other interests include alternative energy, future forecasting and experimental music. Currently working on his first handmade analog electronic instrument, part of which is a Theremin, and includes a synthesizer keyboard. Lawrence released his first CD Thick As Steel in November 2008. A second CD, OKAPI was released in April 2009. Both CDs are available in many venues, and include downloadable MP3 and FLAC formats worldwide. Samples of his music can be found here


For several years since his last CD Big Koto Lawrence has focused his attention on strictly acoustic instruments. He has produced silk strings first for Asian instruments, but recently for Western Orchestral instruments such as Violin, Viola, Cello, Contrabass, even Guitar and occasionally, Harp.
