Global Poverty and Practice

Sector: I chose this article because it provides a comprehensive review of the scope and history of as well as the relevant practices and approaches in palliative care. I found the descriptions of the pediatric subspecialty of palliative care and the analysis of access and reach through popular media to be interesting additions.

Area: This article matters because it draws attention to healthcare specifically in India with special attention to the history of the country's health policy and programs for the employed and unemployed. By splitting by regional interventions and distinction between rural and urban areas, this article proved to be an interesting read.

India in Global Studies

I chose this article because it outlines the history, features, implementations, and challenges of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana program effectively as a public health insurance scheme designed to provide free access to health insurance coverage for people who are categorized as low income earners.

Sector article:

Content

Everything included in the article was relevant to the topic of palliative care. However, a description of geriatric palliative care and interventions in that field could have included considering a section on pediatric palliative care was available and a large percentage of the elderly population face life-limiting illnesses anyway so information on approaches specific to that population should have been available. Although some interventions and symptom management was discusses in reference to all patients seeking palliative, a section that went into even more detail, as done with the pediatric specialty, detailing communication and management procedures specific to the elderly could have been discussed.

Area article:

Content

The article was provided great information about the healthcare system in India as well as relevant policy, regulations, and regional differences in access and quality of care received. It was additionally very well written and easy to follow with ample headings and subheadings. A history section could be added to follow the changes in India's healthcare system over time. What I liked most about the article was the attention to detail in accounting for factors specific to various regional areas, such as North and South India as well as rural and urban areas, in India and the focus on specific healthcare challenges such as pediatric and women's health and malnutrition.

India article:

Content

The article explains the history, features, implementations, and challenges of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana program with information that was relevant to the topic of India's universal health policy and health insurance scheme. The topic is mostly up-to-date with the history section detailing information as recently as 2020, but if significant changes or updates have taken place since then, those should also be included in the article. I think that the inclusion of a challenges section was important in contextualizing the implementation of the program.

Tone
