Zayo Group was founded in 2007 by Dan Caruso and John Scarano. The company raised $225 million in private equity financing from five equity investors in 2007 and it secured $128 million in equity financing in 2009. Since 2007, Zayo Group has acquired over 21 businesses, including: AboveNet, Adesta Communications assets, AGL Networks, American Fiber Systems, CenturyTel markets, Citynet Fiber Network, Columbia Fiber Solutions, Fiber Works, FiberLink, FiberNet Telecom Group, Indiana Fiber Works, Litecast, Memphis Networx, Northwest Telephone, NTI, Onvoy, PPL Telcom, VoicePipe, 360networks, and MarquisNet.[4]

Zayo’s fiber networks span approximately 74,300 route miles, serve 283 geographic markets in the United States and Europe, and connect to over 11,740 buildings, including more than 3,045 on-net cellular towers. Zayo’s services are primarily used by wireless service providers, carriers and other communications service providers, media and content companies, and other bandwidth-intensive enterprises.
