Edgar Valdez (born 2005 or 2006), known by his gamertag Sparg0, is a Mexican professional Super Smash Bros. player.

Biography

Edgar Valdez was born 2005 or 2006 in Tijuana, Mexico.[1][2]

Valdez participated in local tournaments in Tijuana and larger competitive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments in the United States.[1][2] In the summer of 2019, he attended in a local California tournament where he placed fourth after winning sets against international players James "VoiD" Makekau-Tyson, Matt "Elegant" Fitzpatrick, and Takuto "Kameme" Ono.[1] His performance was praised on social media by former top-ranked player ZeRo.[3] He also attended the 2020 event GENESIS 7 in California, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic which disrupted professional competition.[1][2] The following year he won Collision Online 2021, a large online event.[2] In September 2021, he placed third at the tournament Ultimate Summit 3, defeated by Leonardo "MkLeo" López Pérez.[2] Pérez, who is also from Mexico, also helped him prepare for the tournament.[2] In November, he made it to the grand finals set of the tournament Mainstage 2021, where he was again defeated by Pérez.[4] Dot Esports wrote that through the set, "Sparg0 held a strong advantage when playing from a dominant stage position, while [MkLeo] was more than comfortable waiting out awkward exchanges in order to push his opponent into a disadvantage at the ledge or off stage".[4]

Valdez competed in a tournament organized by the tourism ministry of Tamaulipas, Mexico, in February 2022.[5]
