Usage

[edit]

((Split section|Title to which to split |discuss=((TALKPAGENAME))#Split proposed |date=August 2024))

The first parameter represents the title for the proposed new page, and |discuss= provides a link to the discussion thread on the talk page of the article proposed to be split (it can be named explicitly or you can use the ((TALKPAGENAME)) "magic word"; |discuss=Talk:((PAGENAME))#Split proposed would also work). The example above produces:

It has been suggested that this section be split out into another page titled Title to which to split. (Discuss) (November 2015)

Of course, the page "Title" already exists, but your actual page title will most likely be either a red link or a redirect.

If more than one target article needs to be named, use the more robust template ((Split portions)):

It has been suggested that this section be split out into pages titled First title to which to split and Second title to which to split. (Discuss) (November 2015)

This template will add tagged articles to Category:All articles to be split, the proper dated subcategory of Category:Article sections to be split, and the proper dated subcategory of Category:Articles to be split.
