This is a documentation subpage for Template:Representative. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

((Representative)) looks up information about an incumbent member of a representative body. When this information is replicated across many articles, corrections and updates become laborious. Gathering it together on a single wiki page (herein called a 'dataset') eases the maintenance burden.

• The first positional parameter indicates which dataset to use for lookup.
• The second positional parameter, usually a numeric value, indicates which district or seat.

• format= to specify the display format (name of formatting template)
• fmt= to specify the display format (shorthand)

• ((Representative|nycd|1))

displays the representative of New York's 1st congressional district in the default format:

• ((Representative|caad|2|format=Representative/format/nameonly))

displays the representative of California's 2nd State Assembly district using ((Representative/format/nameonly)) for formatting:

Jim Wood

• ((Representative|cacd|3|fmt=linked))

displays the representative of California's 3rd congressional district using ((Representative/format/linked)) for formatting:

Kevin Kiley

Updates and corrections to data (such as the representative's name or political affiliation) should be made to the "dataset template". There are six dataset templates:

Massachusetts

New York (state)

San Francisco

Some display formats are not supported for all datasets.
