I added it because, as far as I can tell, this group's claim to fame is one song. "Wikipedia is not a news source: it takes more than just routine news reports about a single event or topic to constitute significant coverage." See WP:NTEMP. Also, the group doesn't seem to meet any of the criteria in WP:BAND except maybe, at a stretch, the first. The article also reads, at least in part, like an advertisement for the group. I thought about proposing it for deletion but decided it might be helpful to obtain some comments before doing so.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:02, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would argue that The Maccabeats meet criterion #7 of musical group notability -- with 2.5 million hits, the modern concept of a viral video may debatably be a social phenomenon that ranks equivalent to "a representative prototype artist/group" in that people will refer to such an artist/group as the threshold for viral video notability. Two and a half million hits is worthwhile, and it's more notable than a lone standing viral video because there is an actual group here, rather than some guy or girl doing something that has no foreseen sequitur. There's no source to indicate that the group has "become one of the most prominent representatives of a notable style." Just because the song takes off on YouTube doesn't do it.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:36, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't say there was a source, but 3 million hits and coverage from so many major news outlets indicates something. DRosenbach(Talk | Contribs) 13:26, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
3M hits (and updating the tally every day) means, at best, that the song is popular. At worst, it says something about Internet sheep. The news coverage reports mainly on the Internet phenomenon itself, which is essentially circular.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:26, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've begun a discussion about this issue on the Notability/Noticeboard here.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:23, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Comment: New WikiProject for A Cappella-related articles[edit]
Hi there! To any and all interested: I've proposed a WikiProject dedicated to a cappella. This would be a group of editors interested in improving the quality of articles related to a cappella. If you're passionate about a cappella—ranging from the Pentatonix to collegiate a cappella groups like The Maccabeats, or perhaps pop culture representations like Pitch Perfect and The Sing-Off—please check out the proposal and share your thoughts!
