I think the best way to solve this issue is to keep Wissam al-Hassan's page while renaming this one October 2012 Beirut Bombing. This way, we can make a point of the other victims and they do not go forgotten too. We're talking 100+ wounded as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Karim226 (talk • contribs) 06:59, 20 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Then again, all sources and international parties seem to agree that this was a targeted attack against a specific individual, with the bystanders being unintended collateral. --hydrox (talk) 08:54, 20 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Agree with Karim26. Hassam was kill among 7 other people so I think this isn´t a very right name. Moreover, we don´t know 100% that he was the target (although personally for me it is as clear as crystal)--Comet21 (talk) 15:35, 20 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I also propose we change the title of this article to 2012 Beirut bombing per wp:commonname. This is what most news sources are calling it. It might be an assisination, but the phrase "Beirut bombing" is far more commonly used.-- FutureTrillionaire (talk) 03:02, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Also, I don't mind adding October in the title, I don't think it matters. -- FutureTrillionaire (talk) 03:07, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The current WP:LEADSENTENCE is for article "Assassination of Wissam al-Hassan". This should be fixed, but I am having hard time writing the opening so that it does not name al-Hassan as the primary target of the attack. --hydrox (talk) 11:01, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
However, 2012 Beirut bombing seems obviously preferable over October 2012 Beirut bombing per WP:NAMINGCRITERIA ("Titles usually use names and terms that are precise enough to unambiguously identify the topical scope of the article, but not overly precise" and " Titles are concise, and not overly long.") "Year place attack_type" is the convention followed by at least 2011 Norway attacks and 2010 Stockholm bombings, and there have been no major bombings in Beirut earlier this year that would risk confusion. Thus, using "October" in the name when it is not really required sounds even WP:CRYSTAL'ic, because it seems to assume there will be more bombings to come in Beirut in 2012.
As the move to the more concise name could be still done without sysadmin intervention, I've boldly done it. --hydrox (talk) 11:25, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply[reply]
