Just a link to the Club's webpage? If no one does something to this soon, I'll place it on votes for deletion... --Dante Alighieri 04:25 20 May 2003 (UTC)
Don't take the removal of the text negatively. You simply need to write something up YOURSELF about the NYYC. We always welcome new material here at the Wikipedia, so PLEASE don't be discouraged. We'd love to see a full-fledged article on this subject. --Dante Alighieri 04:46 20 May 2003 (UTC)
This burgee is copyrighted by the NYCC and no permission is given for its use here. Please do not re-add. Permission must come in writing via the OTRS system. Per OTRS Ticket#2007120410011436. - JodyBtalk 19:04, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don´t beleive flags can have copyrights.--Banderas (talk) 18:07, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Technically, they can be registered and receive a servicemark/trademark. It has supposedly been registered since the 1800's and was recently renewed in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. We have no right to use it here. Thanks. - JodyBtalk 22:47, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They can probaly protect the use of the flag only by the club or club members, but an illustration of the flag is an illustration, not the flag, and I find it hard to beleive to have copyrights. Did they grant permission to "Lloyd´s register of yachts" tu publish it for years ?. On the other hand, the copyrighted flag has proportions 2:3, 3:5 or 1:2 ???. We had a 3:5 illustration. --Banderas (talk) 12:16, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest you contact them and ask for written permission to release use of the flag under GFDL. Failing that it is over and the flag cannot be re-added. The above referenced OTRS ticket has been passed to the foundation and the image was deleted from commons by User:Bastique. Although I do not speak for the foundation I think it is clear that they are not willing to incur the legal expense of defending its use against the wishes of the NYCC. - JodyBtalk 23:13, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have emailed NYCC requesting permission. Hopefully the answer will be yes. Boatman (talk) 09:45, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That is exactly the way to do it. Remember, they must release it according to one of our acceptable licenses and they must contact the foundation, in writing, with the release. At that point, the image can be restored and used as before. - JodyBtalk 14:31, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, WP:ERP offers possible letters for sending - its worth reading. -JodyBtalk 14:35, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The burgee image has recently been restored (by an admin) after a discussion of the matter on commons and is now tagged with the proper license templates ((PD-1923)) and ((Trademarked)), so I recently added it back into the infobox of this article. It is trademarked, but since it was published before 1923, the copyright has long since expired. I'm not sure about the OTRS ticket, but it sounds like an over zealous attempt at trademark enforcement by someone at NYYC. Mojoworker (talk) 07:59, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Research Question Regarding NYYC - ' The Wanderer ' Sloop[edit]
I am researching the history of the sloop ' Wanderer ' , built
at the James G. Baylis boatyard in Port Jefferson, NY in 1857.
This sloop was originally owned by Colonel John D. Johnson
of the NYYC. A portrait of the sloop under full sail, by artist
Warren Shepard, hung for many years at the NYYC in NYC.
On May 29th, 1858, the sloop ' Wanderer ' was sold to William
C. Corrie, a member of the NYYC.
The sloop ' Wanderer' has the infamous distinction of being the
last of America's slave ships, having transported 750 Africans
from the Congo to Savannah, GA between 1958 and 1859.
If anyone has any additional information concerning the sloop
' Wanderer'; and, or, Mr. William Corrie please post a response.
Thank You. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yacht747 (talk • contribs) 00:39, 22 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
