Crimson Peak (also known as Haunted Peak) is an upcoming gothic horror film written, produced and directed by Guillermo Del Toro. It will star Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska. It will be produced and distributed by Legendary Pictures[1] and Universal Pictures respectively. The film is set to release sometime in April 2015.
"But basically what it is is a really, really, almost classical gothic romance ghost story, but then it has two or three scenes that are really, really disturbing in a very, very modern way. Very, very disturbing, it’s a proper R rating. And it’s adult." -Guillermo Del Toro[2]
Set in Cumbria, a largely rural and mountainous region of northern England. Young author Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska) discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be.[3]
Benedict Cumberbatch and Emma Stone were set to appear in the film but were replaced by Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska respectively.[5][6] Cumberbatch was set to play the onscreen sibling of Chastain, which now Hiddleston is set to play.[7] The film is titled under production as Haunted Peak but Legendary Pictures assured that the film's title has not changed, the title is only the one being used for the studio booking.[8] In the summer of 2013, Burn Gorman joined the cast, del Toro said Gorman would be coming in and doing a cameo.[2]
At the beginning of October 2013, Jessica Chastain went through a full-body cast process for the film. She posted pictures on her Facebook of her getting her head, torso, and fists cast.[9][10]
The film is set to start filming in Toronto at Pinewood Toronto Studios from 10 February to 14 May 2014 with an expected April 2015 release date.[11][1]
