Hal Turner "controversy"?

I don't believe the Hal Turner ivasion merits its own section in the controversy section, because (a) 4chan and 7chan have both done quite a few invasions, some of which were more widespread than this (i.e. Tom Green) and (b) these events don;t really fit the definition of "controversy". Perhaps an ivasions section is in order? I don't mean to glorify these, but if we're interested in tracking such things this would be the better way to do it. I'd edit the page now but it seems to be locked... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.199.8.185 (talk) 15:45, 9 March 2007 (UTC).

I sort of agree, but if we want to have an invasions section, we need to have more sources of the other invasions like old Greeny and Girl talk and co. If we can't, I'd keep it where it is - it doesn't really deserve its own section, being so short. -Wooty Woot? contribs 18:46, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Seriously. Weren't the Hal Turner invasions carried out by eBaum's World forum members? Tockeg 21:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Ha!, eBaum's wishes that they could pull off an invade like that. Or any invade for that fact. Common, its eBaum's... Tirus 14:24, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

7chan

It redirects here but there is not a single mention of it. Why is this?Secunda1 23:08, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

There are no reliable sources to the existence of 7chan but we can redirect it here because it is a 4chan-related subject. Shii (tock) formerly Ashibaka 17:03, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
What about www.7chan.org That proves it's exsistance. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.109.219.2 (talk) 18:39, 13 March 2007 (UTC).
7chan does not have as much press as 4chan. It exists, but no one cares enough to say such.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 20:10, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, yeah, I agree that it probably doesn't have enough notability to deserve its own article, but couldn't it at least say "spawning copies such as 7chan.org, etc" or something to that effect? Just to show that it does have some relation? Secunda1 18:50, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Probably. (Steampowered 05:51, 16 March 2007 (UTC)).
Why isn't 7chan listed in (and redirected to) Imageboard? I'm pretty sure it's more active than either iichan or 420chan. If it is kept as a redirect to 4chan, perhaps something should be added to either the /b/ or Controversy sections about the infamous 'Policy enforcement' post. 12.65.36.47 05:16, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

7chan - New facts

A 7chan splitoff, the SecondLife group Patriotic Nigras, attacked a Democrat candidates SecondLife headquarters, something which was reported by several newspapers (There is even an "interview" with PN's leader.

This surely merits 7chan being more than a redirect to 4chan...?

Emolotricity 15:14, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Do you have 2 reliable sources for 7chan? See Wikipedia:Attribution --TrollHistorian 15:37, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
I am heavily involved in said group. We are neither notable nor sourceable, and more importantly, we have absolutely nothing to do with 7chan other than organizing there for about a week before we got our own forums. -Wooty Woot? contribs 07:52, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I participated in the raid (I think, I may be thinking of the wrong one) and PN isn't asosciated with any chan in particular. In fact, I seem to be one of the only 7chan members in the group. Specusci 14:45, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Memes

I would like to mention that a new Meme on 4chan is the Singing Shark, which was originally created by Crun, founder and creator of the webcomic The Hockey Zombie.

Stating new memes is like tring to go to the bottom of the sea with one breath of air. You cant do it. Within the past week, FATGET, and Sparta have been started. Tirus 14:32, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

What about the O-RLY owl? That's a meme which has move to just about every sophomric internet community.

the O-RLY owl is really not a 4chan meme, because its not used all that often used and when it is the person gets a auto fail. Tirus 14:31, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

/b/ invades self?

The other day, a FATGET wordfilter along with other filters poped-up. Anyone know who started it and any posssible explination to why moot or a mod would do this? Tirus 14:35, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

m00t sets the wordfilters to crazy shit for the lulz. invading /b/; ocean of piss, etc. -Wooty Woot? contribs 22:29, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Important news

Update: Flashy background and music both gone now. Today, moot returned to /b/. This has had an enormous impact on the site, and I feel that this should be posted somewhere in the article, though I can't edit it since it's protected: "On March 26, 2007, moot returned to /b/ after an e-mail he received which made him reconsider the situation into which /b/ had gotten itself. He decided to make it the mayhem it once was, banning random people, making the background flash and playing obnoxious music, much appreciated by the veteran /b/tards." -- UnKnown X (talkcontribs) 15:25, 26 March 2007 (UTC).

leave the ads in, it captures the essence of 4chan... Tirus 14:20, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
what? the essence of 4chan? gb2gaia. the essence of 4chan is copypasta and reposts of reposts reposts. the ads started around 3 or 4 months ago. before that, 4chan was ad-free.84.136.218.57 11:36, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Wait, what? Moot changed the ad provider in early January, but 4chan has had banner ads long before that. --Transfinite (Talk / Contribs) 17:53, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, leave the ads, their not hurting anyone...that I know of. Tirus 14:32, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

Lot's of additions needed.

I was just going to start editing away but I figured I would take it up with you lot first. There is a LOT missing from this article.

There is even more stuff after this, but this is what I can think of off the top of my head. What do you think? KorayA 06:04, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

None of this is attributable that I can tell.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 06:28, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
All of this (even the dates) can be cited right back to the News posts. If you would bother to check them. Go down the list, I am positive they are all there. As far as attribution, 4chan itself complies with ATT. The content that is in the article now isn't neccesarily attributable. If you check the citing, most of it links back to 4chan.org KorayA 07:21, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Much of this isn't notable enough for a Wikipedia article or is transient. MrVacBob 20:59, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Re:ADTRW - there was a discussion on this in archive 4 Talk:4chan/Archive 4#Something Awful - there was never really a consensus on how to present the origin other than "moot did it." Most of the other points you make are only can only be sourced to http://www.4chan.org/news.php?all, and primary sources should be used carefully and sparingly. The thing about conventions though, that could probably be useful, especially with sources outside 4chan. --Transfinite (Talk / Contribs) 03:02, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Shoop da Whoop

Another thing redirected here but never mentioned. This would sort of confuse readers, because anyone who wants to know what "shoop da whoop" is about exactly (like me) are redirected to a page that says nothing about it. I think the section should either be added or it should be mentioned somewhere in the article, or the redirect should be deleted so those who search this topic know that there is no information concerning it on this 4chan page. If "Shoop da Whoop" is related to 4chan for some reason, that should be clearly stated in the text so people know why they were redirected here. 24.15.53.225 00:15, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

No memes, plz—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 00:26, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
In case you are curious, "shoop da whoop" is a bizarre picture of Cell from Dragonball Z badly shopped into blackface. You might want to check http://www.lurkmore.com/wiki/index.php?title=4chan for 4chan memes. --Transfinite (Talk / Contribs) 04:21, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
I see someone cut off the redirect. Thanks to whoever did it, now it might not be so confusing. And thank you Transfinite for informing me exactly what this whole "Shoop da Whoop" thing is. 24.15.53.225
Meme redirects are not supporting or upholding the memes. It is bringing the user to an article that is most "relevant to (their) interests." We just need to connect the dots. Yanksox 23:21, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
If you want memes, then go to http://www.lurkmore.com or http://www.wikichan.org ^_^ Tirus 14:40, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
