Felix Petate, known professionally as Sassa Gurl from Quezon City,[1] is a Filipino comedian, vlogger, singer, model, host, and actor who gained popularity on TikTok since 2020.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
In her first year of college as a communications major, Sassa dropped out to pursue styling as a way to peek into the world of entertainment. After facing struggles, she returned to school and graduated. She then took a call center job so she could afford to buy a secondhand cellphone and start her career as a social media star.[1][12]
Raised by traditional conservative Filipino parents, Sassa faced the same challenges as many other children grappling with their gender identity in a country that has yet to enact an anti-discrimination law. Sassa Gurl is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community and defines herself as a trans woman, using the pronoun "she/her".[1]
Sassa is a content creator and social media personality who has garnered widespread recognition for her engaging and entertaining online presence. Known primarily for her comedic skits and captivating lip-sync videos, she has built a loyal following across multiple platforms, including her popular itssassagurl account. TikTok sensation Sassa Gurl became White Castle Whisky's calendar girl for 2022, marking the first time a member of the LGBTQIA+ community has been featured in the brand's long-running campaign.[10][18]
Her first acting project was in "Wish Ko Lang", where she appeared with the cast, including Ruru Madrid, Angela Alarcon, and other GMA celebrities.[19][20][21]
She made her debut in acting with the film Balota,[13] where she had the opportunity to work alongside renowned actress Marian Rivera, who played the lead role.[22][23][24] This project marked an important milestone in her career, as she shared the screen with one of the industry's most celebrated stars.[25][26]
Her single "Panaginip" is a collaboration with Toni Fowler.[7][27] She was also collaborating of the song "Aries Rising" by Aries Night[28] and "POM POM (Take Me High)" by Manila Luzon.[29][30][31]
The song "Maria Hiwaga", released in 2023, was co-written by Sassa, Kumareng Harvey, and Silas, with Ken Ponce as the producer.[32]
In June 2022, she released the pop song "Lagot!".[32]
