Qahan (Persian: قاهان)[a] is a city in, and the capital of Qahan District of Jafarabad County, Qom province, Iran.[4] It also serves as the administrative center for Qahan Rural District.[5]
At the 2006 National Census, its population was 715 in 193 households, when it was a village in Qahan Rural District of Khalajestan District, Qom County.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 747 people in 255 households.[7] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 784 people in 286 households. It was the most populous village in its rural district.[2]
After the census, Qahan Rural District and Jafarabad District were separated from Qom County in the establishment of Jafarabad County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Jafariyeh as its capital and only city.[4] In May 2023, the village of Qahan was elevated to the status of a city.[8]
