Pitcairnia feliciana is the only species of the Bromeliaceae family that can be found in the wild West-Afrika and can be found growing on steep rocks and cliffs in Equatorial_Guinea[1]. The species probably originates from seeds spread out by migrating birds.

The only known wild populations can be found in an area of only several square miles. This plant is very rare and classified as endangered. In her natural habitat the plant has a long inactive period during the dry season and maintains her dead leaves at the base of the plant as a means of isolation.[2].
