Pankajavalli is 1947 black-and-white Indian Mythological and Biographical film was directed by S. Soundararajan and produced under his production Tamil Nadu Talkies. The film script was written by S. Soundararajan Ayyangar.[1] Music by Papanasam Sivan assets to the movie. The film starring P. U. Chinnappa, T. R. Rajakumari and Kumari Rukmini played lead role to protagonist. The film was basically story Alli, who dominates men in her kingdom,treating them like slaves.[2] The movie was quite successful at the box office. Pankajavalli film inspired by the popular Kerala folktale Malayala Pankajavalli whhich Ayyangar duly adapted for tami, writing the screenplay himself.[3]

Plot

Beauty of Pankajavalli(T. R. Rajakumari) the pandavas hero Arjuna(P. U. Chinnappa) decided to conquer her. However, she capture him and he prays to lord Krihna(Kumari Rukmini), who turns him into a women(named by Brihannala). After many interesting twist, the truth comes out and every thing ends happily.[2]

A successful production of the pioneer of South Indian Cinema S. Soundararajan Ayyangar(he signed his film as S. Soundararajan) under his popular production banner Tamil Nadu Talkies the film Pankajavalli was completed by 1946, but released only year 1947. Not many aware that he was first of the first to use the words Tamil Nadu refers to the state way back in 1930's.

One interesting features of this film was that the role of Lord Krishna was played very well by a women(Kumari Rukmini). It was daring acting by Ayyangar who was well known for his innovative ideas and new approaching film making.[2]
