Middleborough is a proposed commuter rail station on the MBTA Commuter Rail, located in Middleborough, Massachusetts.[1] It is proposed as part of Phase 1 of South Coast Rail, a project to bring commuter rail service to Fall River and New Bedford. Phase 1 of South Coast Rail is planned to run along the Middleboro Subdivision, which branches off of the mainline shortly before the existing Middleborough/Lakeville station, which has caused a concern that the existing station will be underserved and underused. The new station is being proposed to properly serve commuters in Middleborough, as the current station would likely be completely abandoned or limited to only shuttle service as a result of South Coast Rail.[2]
