Massimo Moratti (born 16 May 1945) is an Italian oil tycoon. He is the owner and president of Italian football club FC Internazionale Milano and C.E.O. of Saras S.p.A.

Life and career

Moratti is the fourth son of Angelo Moratti, who was owner and president during Inter's golden age from 1955 to 1968. His brother Letizia is the Mayor of Milan.

Born in the family villa in the Chiesanuova forest in Verona, he graduated from LUISS Guido Carli.

On his fathers death, he inherited his shares in Saras, a group that is engaged in the refining of petroleum, where he is presently CEO. Moratti is also the owner of Sarlux, head quartered in Cagliari, which focuses on the production of electricity from the waste oil.

Married to the environmental activist Emilia Bossi, the couple have five children. On 10 September, 2009, Sauro Gori announced that Moratti ahd been appointed a UN Goodwill Ambassador.

Role at FC Internazionale Milano

Massimo Moratti took over Inter from Ernesto Pellegrini in 1995, even though he spent hundreds of million of dollars, Inter fans had to suffer a bleak and hard time as Inter failed to win a league title since 1989. However, Inter has since clinched the 2005-2006, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 Serie A titles, with an impressive run of 17 consecutive victories, a record that stands among other top European league competitions.

It has long been Massimo's ambition to restore Inter to the heights they once knew under his father. He has won one UEFA Cup (1998), five Scudetti/Serie A (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), three Coppa Italia (2005, 2006, 2010), three Supercoppa Italiana (2005, 2006, 2008) and one UEFA Champions League (2010).

Moratti has spent around €300 million in the transfer market, exceeded only by Roman Abramovich of Chelsea. There have been ten coaches under his ownership, the current coach being José Mourinho. [1] In July 1999, Moratti sanctioned a then world-record €48 million purchase of striker Christian Vieri and has since purchased numerous superstars, including Ronaldo, Maicon, Adriano, Hernán Crespo, Roberto Baggio, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Luís Figo, Patrick Vieira, Samuel Eto'o, Wesley Sneijder and Juan Sebastián Verón.
