Call Me by Your Name is a 2017 romantic coming-of-age drama film directed by Luca Guadagnino. The screenplay, written by James Ivory, is based on André Aciman's 2007 novel of the same name. It is the final installment in Guadagnino's thematic Desire trilogy, following I Am Love (2009) and A Bigger Splash (2015).[1] Set in Italy in 1983, the film follows Timothée Chalamet as Elio Perlman, an American-Italian Jewish boy, and Armie Hammer as Oliver, a visiting American Jewish scholar, and their ensuing romantic relationship. Michael Stuhlbarg, Amira Casar, Esther Garrel, and Victoire Du Bois feature in supporting roles. Sayombhu Mukdeeprom served as director of photography, and Sufjan Stevens contributed three songs to the soundtrack.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2017.[2][3] It began a limited release in the United States on November 24, 2017 by Sony Pictures Classics.[4][5][6] Its $101,219 per theater average was the highest opening average of the year and the best opening weekend of any one of Guadagnino's films.[7][8] The film has so far earned $7.2 million at the worldwide box office, against a production budget of $3.5 million.[9] Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes surveyed 208 reviews and judged 97% of them to be positive.[10] Metacritic calculated a weighted average score of 93/100 based on 49 reviews, indicating "universal acclaim".[11] Call Me By Your Name was Metacritic fifth-best reviewed film of 2017 at,[12] while Rotten Tomatoes' best-limited release,[13] and second best-reviewed romance film of 2017.[14]

Call Me by Your Name received widespread acclaim, particularly for its direction, cinematography, screenplay, music, and performances by Chalamet, Hammer, and Stuhlbarg. It was selected by the American Film Institute and National Board of Review as one of its ten Movies of the Year. It garnered three Golden Globe nominations—Best Picture; Best Actor for Chalamet, and Best Supporting Actor for Hammer. It received eight nominations at the Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. It led the Independent Spirit Awards, garnering six nominations: Best Feature, Best Director, Best Male Lead, Best Supporting Male, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing. At the 24th Screen Actors Guild Awards, Chalamet was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.

Call Me by Your Name won the Grand Prize at the Chéries-Chéris Festival and was awarded NOS Audience Award at Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival. Chalamet received Best Actor award at the New York Film Critics Circle. The film received a ten-minute standing ovation at its New York Film Festival screening, the longest in the history of the festival. The film was a runner-up at the Toronto International Film Festival for the People's Choice Award, and it won Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. The Gotham Independent Film Awards and Hollywood Film Awards both awarded Chalamet their Breakout Actor Awards.
