Jo Smith (d 2 December 1954) was an Australian playwright who wrote a number of popular melodramas.[1][2]

Smith was born in Mebourne. He worked as an actor and writer. His first play was The Miner's Trust. He wrote several successful plays.

Smith donated money from his plays Before the Dawn and The Reville to soldier organisations.[3][4]

Then he went into business and was successful. Smith died in 1954.[5]
