Tiera Kennedy (née Leftwich; born July 24, 1998), previously credited mononymously as Tiera, is an American singer and songwriter.[1][2][3][4] She released her debut major-label EP in 2021 and has opened up for country acts Rodney Atkins and the Charlie Daniels Band.[1][5] In 2024, she was one of four Black female country singers featured on "Blackbiird", a cover of "Blackbird" by the Beatles, from Beyoncé's eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter; she also provided background vocals on the album track "Tyrant".[6]
A native of Gardendale, Alabama, Kennedy grew up learning how to play the guitar from watching YouTube videos.[7][1] She released her first EP independently when she was in high school.[8][9] She attended the University of North Alabama on an entrepreneurial scholarship one year, during which she also spent time recording at FAME Studios, before moving to Nashville to focus on her music career.[7][10] Kennedy was then mentored by Shania Twain, who invited her to perform on the reality TV series Real Country.[11]
Kennedy married creative director Kamren Kennedy in 2021 after seven years of dating.[2] Her song "Found It in You" received a nomination in the category of Female Breakthrough Video of the Year at the 2023 CMT Music Awards.[12] She is the host of The Tiera Show on Apple Music.[5] Kennedy cites Dolly Parton, Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini, Cam, and Taylor Swift as influences.[3][13]
