Danielle June Marsh (born 11 April 2005), known mononymously as Danielle (Korean: 다니엘), is a Korean-Australian singer.[1] She started out her career in the entertainment industry by making several appearances on television as a child, before debuting as a member of South Korean girl group NewJeans in 2022. The following year, Marsh ventured into acting, voicing Ariel in the Korean dub of the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid (1989).
Danielle June Marsh, also named Mo Ji-hye (Korean: 모지혜), was born on 11 April 2005 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, to an Australian father and a South Korean mother.[2][1][3][4][5] In 2011, Marsh made her first television appearance on tvN's Rainbow Kindergarten.[6] She went on to appear on Shinhwa Broadcasting and Jesse's Play Kitchen in 2012.[6][4] Marsh returned to Australia to attend elementary school.[7] She became a trainee in the third year of middle school.[1]
On 1 July 2022, ADOR teased the launch of their new girl group, NewJeans, by posting three animated videos.[8] On 22 July 2022, Marsh made her debut alongside the group with the release of the music video for their debut single, "Attention", which was co-written by her.[9][10] "Attention" topped South Korea's Circle Digital Chart and won Best K-pop Song at the 20th Korean Music Awards.[11][12] NewJeans quickly rose to fame with the success of their following singles "Hype Boy", "Ditto" and "OMG",[13] as well as their albums New Jeans and OMG, which sold more than a million copies each.[14]
In 2023, Marsh voiced Ariel in the Korean dub of the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid (1989).[15] Although some people initially criticized the casting, both Marsh's acting and singing in the film were praised after the first screening.[16] She recorded several songs for the soundtrack of the film, including the single "Part of Your World", which was released on 17 May 2023, and debuted at number two on Billboard's Hot Trending Songs.[17][18] In May 2024, Marsh is set to host the Korea on Stage – New Generation concert, organized by the Cultural Heritage Administration.[19]
In January 2023, Burberry announced that Marsh had become one of their global ambassadors.[20] In March 2023, Marsh became a brand ambassador for YSL Beauty and appeared in a promotional campaign for their Candy Glaze lipstick.[21] In March 2024, Marsh became a global ambassador for Celine.[22]
