The Lord Mayor of the City of London is the head of the City of London Corporation, which governs the City of London. Historically this was the most important local government position in London, England, but the City of London covers only a very small part of modern Greater London, which has its own mayor, the Mayor of London. The position of Mayor of London is now much the more prominent of the two offices.
