Japanese schools outside of Japan mainly for the native speakers of Japanese or the children of Japanese descent.

There are two types of day schools: nihonjin gakkō (Japanese overseas schools operated by local Japanese associations) and Shiritsu zaigai kyōiku shisetsu (Japanese overseas schools operated by a Japan-based private school association). Hoshū jugyō kō are weekend/supplementary schools.
